Uber OctoberFest
OK I did a simple recipe last night. I got the idea from the seasonal cans, which are twice the size of a normal can of extract. What I did was use one can of OctoberFest with one can of Classic American Light. I call it Uber OctoberFest. I used both yeast packs too. The OG was 1.062. We'll see what it is like in a couple of months.
I also did a Perry, with 2.5 lbs of honey, yeast nutrients, and the MB pear concentrate. OG 1.092 I think this will be more of a sparking wine.
And I did what I call Red October which is OctoberFest with one LME Pale and a bag of booster. I've done this before and it is great. OG 1.054
That's the update for this week

Re: Uber OctoberFest
OK Next up. Last night I made a batch of the MB saison with the zest and juice from 3 oranges. I'm hoping to smooth out the bitter edge of the Saison a little with the orange. I also did the yeast dry just to see if it makes a difference. The last 2 I did I rehydrated as per the instructions on the yeast packet.
Got a starting gravity of 1.084. Higher than the version that I did straight, there I got 1.064. I guess the orange juice added some sugar 0.020?
I'll eventually post back in a couple of months with the results.

Tried it this last weekend. Oh My God. I think I love Saison's, and the orange just works so well with it.

Yeah, I think the Orange Saison made it into my stash. What I call the recipes that are going to be the standard ones I make.

Re: Uber OctoberFest
OK, I think the CAL was slightly too much hops, the octoberfest was a little bitter. Next time I'll just use DME to add more malt.
