Monumental Change

Post by joechianti »

Well, it looks like it finally caught up with me. In light of a preponderance of health problems, I am attempting to limit my alcoholic consumption to 2 drinks per day, as best as I can. I thought I was doing pretty good when I went from a quart a day of whiskey to a pint a day, with a smattering of beer mixed in. But this is going to be drastic. Been drinking around the clock for 43 years, and now it’s come down to this. There was a time when I didn’t really care if I bit the bullet, but somewhere along the line, probably due to changing spouse from a devil to an angel; it looks like I am starting to prefer life to death. Maybe you can teach an old dog new tricks. Time will tell.

Since BB2 and I have had the pleasure of meeting your wife Joe I see where you are coming from, she is worth any effort you take on.
I don't want to encourage you to drink if you want/need to quit because if it is a health issue you need to quit and it will not be easy after such a long time.
But if I am reading in this that you are just planning to cut back you should get off the hard stuff and drink more brews so we could still get together for a tasting session once in a while.

Whatever you do the Brewbirds are wishing you the best of luck and improved health and offer any support to you that we may.

Best of luck Joe. A dear friend here quit drinking altogether last year after hospital and rehab. I'd seen him drink vodka by the pint glass for years. While we all on this board enjoy a drink, it's not safe to overdo it. We like you, so be careful and stick around a while.

Maybe "chugging along" isn't quite the right metaphor? :D

Best of luck Joe! I also did a severe cutback for SWMBO and for those very reasons. Well, except during tailgate season when we are both allowed to let our hair down a bit.

I wish you well with your effort to cut back Joe, your health will be rewarded. I always say, "Everything in moderation, except sex".

Keep in mind that you will now have vast amounts of cash with which to visit a barber and a dentist, which from your pic you clearly need.

Joe, I always think it's a shame when someone HAS to quit something that they enjoy and have been enjoying for years, like drinking alcohol and many other vices. But heath reasons can be a concern as also keeping things good with family. My thoughts and same as others have posted, cut down to a point where you can enjoy some home brews which you also enjoy brewing and try not to drink the hard stuff... It would be a lot better then not drinking any at all and hopefully not to get to that point.
