I want to do this!!!

Post by LouieMacGoo »

The class is Brewshop 101: Home Beer Brewing Essentials and our group was treated to an interactive beer making experience. What’s so great about this class?

You’re immediately greeted with a pint of home brew when you walk in the door.
You get to learn everything you could possibly want to know about beer as well as how to brew your own.
The teacher and co-founder, John La Polla, is funny, entertaining and keeps the class going with jokes and little known beer tidbits.
You get to drink some more home brewed beer.
You are taught the techniques and theory behind home brewing and how to avoid common mistakes.
You get to participate in actually making a beer during the class AND you get to come back in a few weeks and give the beer you made a try!
It’s a lot of fun!
This is in Brooklyn, NY for all you New Yorkers out there!

Yep, that's Homebrew 101 alright! I'd flunk the class just to repeat that part.

Damn, I'm sad now. I grew up in Hoboken, NJ, but now I'm in Texas. Almost the identical atmosphere, only much too far to travel.

You know what's weird? I live probably only about 40 miles or so from this place, but it still seems too far for me to go. All those bridges....

I"m with you LM in that it sounds like a cool event to attend.

We have events here that sound great also but always end up deciding how many batches of beer we can brew for the cost of the entrance fee and gas money so we pass on them and make beer instead. :D

I gotta agree with FedoraDave on this one, I'm 15 minutes from the George Washington Bridge and haven't been to the city in in a year and a half. AND the only times I have been in in the last few years were to specifically go to Dinosaur BBQ.

Speaking of which - FD there is a great BBQ joint on 9W in Fort Montgomery NY, just past the Bear Mountain Bridge. Barnstormer BBQ. Awesome. And thy have some good beer on tap, last time I was there they had Troegs Troegenator Dopplebock, yum. And Ballast Point Sculpin in bottles. Yum yum!

BTW was over at Cask & Kettle today getting stuff for this weekend!

ssorck, I've driven past Barnstormer a number of times. Always wanted to drop in and try it.

And I'll be hitting up C&K this Saturday. I need some DME and yeast for Sunday, when I brew a new recipe: HopSLAMber Ale.

I'm about 50 miles from Brooklyn, and I'd have to dig up my holster before I go back!
