Recipe Assistance Please
Took an inventory last night, and found I had a few cans of MB HMEs still on the shelf. I haven't done a MB sized batch in quite a while, so thought I would ask the Borg for some suggestions. Here's what I have:
1 Original MB High Country Canadian Draft
1 Original MB Whispering Wheat Weizenbier
1 Coopers MB American Ale
1 Coopers MB Classic American Light
Grains:
2 row 9lbs 2oz
Maris Otter 1lb 8oz
C20 1lb 8oz
C40 2lbs 4oz
C60 7oz
C80 8oz
Roasted Barley 14oz
Biscuit 7oz
Carapils 2lbs
Golden Light DME 3lbs
Hops:
Cascade 3.8oz
Centennial 2.9oz
Saaz 2oz
Amarillo .6oz
No yeast on hand besides the fumundas, but I can pick up whatever there.
Looking to do a LBK sized batch or two (or three even) with the available ingredients.
So what say you Borg? What are your best/favorite recipes that use those HMEs?

Re: Recipe Assistance Please
No specific recipe ideas for you, but an idea nonetheless:
The last time I had cans of HME on hand I used them to try a hopstand (using the old WCPA as the base). It gave me a chance to learn/play with a new technique and not risk spending a whole day doing it.
If it's something that you haven't done, consider it food for thought.

Re: Recipe Assistance Please
Thanks Kealia. Not a bad idea. I'll keep that in mind.
I dug around through the MB archives and found a couple who had combined HCCD and WWW with some success. Also saw a recipe on the C-MB (Santa Catalina Pale Ale) that uses both the C-MB HMEs that I have and Cascade hops. May have to look at that one a little closer...

.5oz centennial 15 min

Fill with mingled cream and amber,

Re: Recipe Assistance Please
I'd use a good portion of your grains and do an AG.....as a guideline, not knowing what styles you like:
I'd use all the 2 row and MO, add 1/2 lb of C80, all the biscuit and do 1.5 oz Cetntennial at 60, 1 oz of Cascade at 20, 1 oz of Centennial at 10 and 1 oz cascade at 0.
Then dry hop with 1.5 oz of a blend of cascade and Centennial.
I've kind of gone away lately with DME and HME so I'm not a good judge of what works but I've basically done some crystal steeped for 30 minutes and added late addition and dry hopping for the HME's.

Re: Recipe Assistance Please
Thanks Beer-lord. That does sound tasty. I probably will do something like that. Was more looking for how to enhance the 4 MB HMEs that I have. Hoping to get some favorite recipes that others have made with those as a base.

Re: Recipe Assistance Please
Agreed. In a MrB sized batch you don't want to use more than 8oz of specialty grains.
I generally use 4-6 oz of Crystal 40 or 60.

Taking your suggestion and tweaking it just a bit. Bumped it to 2.5 gallons to try out the new BD Conical this coming weekend. Here's what I came up with in QBrew.jpsherman wrote:You have the makings for a variation of one my favorites I've made so far.

Going to do a short hop stand with the flame out addition (maybe 20 minutes) to see how that affects things. Thinking this looks pretty tasty to me!
Edit: Forgot the yeast (derp). May pick up a pack of US-05. Not sure I trust the fumundas...
