Watcha think?

Yes BrewDemon and Mr. Beer kits are pretty darn easy but sometime you need a little help from the Borg to get you on the right track. Post your questions here!

Watcha think?

Post by RandyG »

Hey Fellow Borgers, I have been thinking(got lottsa time being retired),wondering what would I get using a new Mr. Beer HME in the original Mr. Beer 6 liter fermenter.I recently purchased a Mr. Beer refill kit with Patriot Lager and American Lite. I was figuring to use the Patriot lager straight up to see what it had to offer at 6 liters instead of 8 qts. Do you think it will be too hoppy, sweet, etc. I'm looking for mucho input here b/c I'm probably gonna brew on the 11th,Veteran's Day.I'm a VietNam era vet,so I figured that would be a good time to brew a Patriot beer. How about it folks?

you might be better off going with 7 liters instead of the 6. That will just be about .56 ltr short of the 8 qts. at the 7ltr, should have a little more body.

It will be a little more hoppy, but Patriot isn't that hoppy to start with. So it may be fine. It will have more ABV than in a 8qt LBK too. You'll make beer I bet :)

Yank, I'd like to boost it up some, but this Mr. Beer Pilot fermenter can only "Safely" hold 6 liters. This is allowing only about an inch of headspace. It is fitted with an airlock, but I may have to put a blowoff tube in it. It was originally supposed to be used with the old 550g refills,so the new 1.87 refills might be too much.We will see. Thanx for the input.

Never know if you don't try! It will be higher ABV, but the stated ABV's are higher than actual anyways. Might be a tad more bitter, but you picked some lower IBU refills.

If you look at some of the newer recipes many of them involve a huge amount of malt for 8Q (some are 4# or so!). I think you will probably be okay.

And thank you for making sure the rest of us can enjoy our freedom, feel safe from our enemies, and make the world a better place! :flag:

I am drinking ale today.

Well, turned out as I suspected.I came home from the Market to find my Mr. Beer Pilot fermenter bubbling over out of the airlock. I thought this would happen after seeing the krausen pushing up against the lid. I quickly rigged
up some tubing to an old airlock without innards,half-filled alittle bucket with h2O and put the tubing into it.Didn't get to sanitize it too well, but once the krausen drops,I replace the airlock with a sanitized one.Besides, everything is coming out of the fermenter,so hopefully nuttin will get in.If so :( Still, acting quickly, was better than having a giant mess to clean up,even though the fermenter is sitting in a tray with sides.
