Calling all LBK users Beermergency????

Post by Brewbirds »

We just brewed an Imperial IPA with a final measured gravity of 1.081 and something happened in BeerSmith where the volume readings were off.

I now have an LBK full to aprox. an inch ABOVE the Q mark. There is almost no head space.

Yeah, put a cookie sheet or baking pan under it, and make sure the vents don't get clogged with dried krausen.

That's about the best you can do at this point.

Oh man all you guys read this post and go "OH YEAH BEER PRON" .
While I (no I don't own a video camera) am FREAKING OUT about what is going to happen to my beer you all just want pics. (psssst okay so do I :jumpy: )

She is sitting in an ice chest so mess wise I am cool and from the wise acre responses :p I guess I can indeed expect a mess.

Seriously though if I am going to have a problem it will be overnight so I should I over cool it with ice packs and then bring it back up?

Will it really blow the lid off????

I wouldn't cool it overnight. Just let it do it's thing. Sounds like your prepared for the mess. Just make sure that lid is not on tight, you may even want to loosen it a turn or so to give it plenty of room to overflow without clogging it up.

EDIT....we still want pics!

Like said, loosen lid, don't chill it down, just try to keep it at your stable brewing temp. If it happens, when It's all done, just dip a paper-towel in some sanitizer and wipe everything down. Including the inside of the lid, the threads, notches, etc. AND, enjoy the show! Don't forget, PICS-Pics-Pics!!!

I'd make sure the lid is not on very tight, so that when it does decide to go ape$#@ on you it will hopefully not plug up the vent holes.

If that happens it will take the lid off yes. Or else if you catch it soon enough you will find that your LBK is deformed and getting round on the bottom and rock side to side if you touch it. I've done that with a 3787 quad... I then went to loosen the lid and it went flying off in my hand and my room looked like the Lawrence Welk show...

Like everybody else said keep the lid loose and try to find something to put under it. When I had my big blowout I am not sure a cookie sheet would have held all the liquid that seeped out but luckily I had placed it in a big tupperware container.

And LOL to the Lawrence Welk show. My grandma used to watch it all the time when I was a little kid and I always called it the bubbles show. In fact the family still joking calls it the bubbles show.

BB2 has gone to bed totally bummed out because he also accidentally deleted the file from his BeerSmith so we are now flying blind on this one.
