Why is it called PRON ?

I know it's a silly question, but why is it called PRON instead of PORN when posting funny beer pics ?

Is it to keep it somewhat family friendly or am I missing something ?

They do the same thing on a BBQ Smoking Forum also and it has always intrigued me ...

Probably all started who knows where or how long ago with a typo. I have noticed that before with many other words. Somebody makes a good typo and everybody else runs with it. This just happens to be a great one for describing something visually pleasing that is family friendly.

Its actually pr0n, and its spelled this way so that it doesn't show up when someone searches the word "porn".

It was introduced as a masking tool to prevent people from logging your involvement in less than reputable activities.

Using pr0n instead of porn is how 1337 hax0rz got around Usenet filters.
