How do you make a trippel using MRBEER?
I just got a growler filled with Slimbrew trekker trippel. It is awesome! Now I am inspired to make one now.....

Re: Trippel
Changes I would make to that recipe:
I would use 2 cans of the Canadian Blonde or a can of the Canadian and a can of the American Light. I would ditch the Czech Pilsner. It is too bitter and tastes like Pride of Ringwood, which has no place whatsoever in a Tripel. ****
I would get me a smack pack of Trappist High Gravity (Wyeast 3787) and ditch the T-58. Mr. Beer sells that.
I would not add the sugar to the beer up front. I would let the 3787 ferment until the krausen starts to fall. Then boil the sugar in a bit of water and let it cool. Then pitch that sugar solution in.
That is what we call "feeding" and it will make the 3787 attenuate more and finish the beer even drier. The extra attenuation will more then make up for the IBUs lost by ditching the Pilsner.
I would let the 3787 free rise in temperature during fermentation up to as much as 78-80 degrees if it wants to go that high. And then after it all settles down let it cool back down into the 60s.
You will get amazing flavors if you do this.
You could substitute saaz for the sterling. Or styrian goldings if you can get some.
You could consider getting a small pack of the pale extract or pick up a bit of DME and boiling some of the hops in it and water for 20-30 minutes, and then adding the rest at flameout. You have some IBU and hop flavor/aroma room to play with if you get rid of the Pilsner extract.
**** disclaimer... I think the Mr. Beer Pilsner extract like the Coopers Pilsner extract in big cans is just plain nasty. I much prefer pilsner extracts from other manufacturers. This is due to the Pride or Ringwood, which I more or less hate if I can taste it a lot, and that's one of the extracts where I can. YMMV if you are not someone who tastes the weird bitter woody flavors it brings, but I would not put it in any Belgian I brew that uses an HME.

Re: Trippel
Actually Mr.B apparently gave up on liquid yeast. I bought 3 smack packs cause they were on sale, and they were all 6 months old. Now they don't show up on the website.
Fill with mingled cream and amber,
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chambers of my brain.
Quaintest thoughts — queerest fancies,
Come to life and fade away:
What care I how time advances?
I am drinking ale today.

Re: Trippel
I think you are right. When I saw a Mr Beer kit for sale at tractor supply last week, I kinda figured they are really reaching to sell their stuff. I would have never thought I would see that (in a farm store).John Sand wrote:Maybe we should have a wake.

It's not fair to hijack the OP's thread but that right there is freaking hilarious.FrozenInTime wrote:I think you are right. Re: Trippel
Any other suggestions on what yeast to use?
Re: Trippel
You could try ordering yeast from another site. Concur with mashani's suggestion of 3787 Trappist High Gravity, or also 3522 Belgian Ardennes which I used on my own tripel recipe.
Re: Trippel
BB2 saw that Label Peelers is having a sale on some yeast, you may see if they have what you need. We got a good deal on a ton of hops a few months ago.

Re: Trippel
I cracked one open last night after 3 weeks in the bottle and 24 hours in the frig. I have to say it is great. It tasted just like the Trippel that inspired me o make this one.
