Got some ingredients today
I actually had some free time today and went to LHBS without a recipe in mind. Just went in looked around and brought what I felt like getting.
Here is what I got
3.3 can of Bavarian Wheat UME
1lbs of honey grains
1 lbs of plain wheat DME
1 Ozs. Of Amarillo ( the price was only $2.50)
2 Ozs. Of sweet orange peel
Yeast
Also mulin sacks, and sanitizer.....
Looking to put this all together , and attempt my first grain steep too.

Gonna be an intense wheat beer! Maybe an imperial hefe?
Re: Got some ingredients today
Over the last year I have really preferred more intense flavors, but not so much a fan of IPAs that often. I just pulled all this stuff together as I was in the store, did not pre plan anything.philm00x wrote:Gonna be an intense wheat beer! Maybe an imperial hefe?
How much and how long to you suggest I steep the grains for?

If that's honey malt, a pound will be quite strong. Are you making a 5 gallon batch?

I agree with Rick in that honey malt is very strong. It can be way to sweet if you add to much.
It has a great flavor but a little goes a long way.

30 mins @ 160*F should do the trick.

Grains need to be crushed before steeped?philm00x wrote:30 mins @ 160*F should do the trick.

I steeped 4 Ozs. For 20 mins at 150., used 1/2 Ozs of Amarillo for 20 mins, with wheat DmE, then 1/2 Ozs. Of Amarillo for 5 mins, added 3.3 can of Bavarian Wheat LME. After the cooled wort went into the LBK added 1/2 Ozs. Of sweetened Orange peel , and than added Nottingham wheat yeast.
It was really active after 24 hours!
How long would this need to stay in the LBK?

21 days. Or less. See your other thread on the subject of how long.
