it is an off shoot of a kentucky common http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kentucky_Common_Beer more than happy to share the recipies (extract and all grain) with any who wants the extract i bought in monroe ohio (but have modified) and the AG was worked up by philm00x and me.

the ranges
OG 1.044-1.049
IBU 20-30
SRM 18-27
ABV 4-5.5%
"Filled with mingled cream and amber
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chambers of my brain
-- Quaintest thoughts -- Queerest fancies
Come to life and fade away;
Who cares how time advances?
I am drinking ale today."

I love to learn things. And as fun as this hobby is, I wasn't afraid to just dive right in! :fedora:

Got Sam smith's oatmeal stout on deck with left hand milk stout Nitro in the hole, can you say thirsty thursday?

Update: not a fan of the Sam smith's porter, tastes a bit like tea :(

Final Edit, the milk stout was really good if a bit strange because of the nitro. Smooth, goes down like water.

Murican Wheat ale. The mango flavor paired well with sesame orange chicken.

Weird night... three tastings tonight (as well as a Yazoo)...

Image
Black Abbey:POTUS 44 (porter), Chapter House (Belgian brown), and POTUS 7 (saison) randalled with sweet mace, lemon balm, and hyssop

Then a small tasting of Sweetwater Festive Ale, Southern Tier (Pumking and Krampus), New Belgium (Le Terroir and La Foile), Sierra Nevada Festive Ale, and a couple I don't remember

Then, a Yazoo Hop Project 75 while waiting for the daughter's singing lesson to finish...

Finally...
Image
Turtle Anarchy: None More Black (coffee stout), Blizzard Beast (stout with wintergreen & elderberry), and 1864 (smoked porter... 1864 is in honor of the Battle of Franklin... look it up... bloodier than Gettyburg)

EDIT: OK, one more... Brown Shugga at home. Love this beer...

Since no one was there to stop me, I bought a four pack of each of these.

I had this first. Not bad, not bad at all. Paul, search this out, you will like. If you can't find it let me know.

Now on to this. Still trying to get a feel for this. Not much aroma, but the bitterness seems to want to pull the enamel from my teeth....interesting.

Started with an American Ale, working on a brown ale... thinking about a Jim Koch interview I heard on the way home yesterday. sounded like they were catching a buzz. He was talking about one of his new brews only avaiable around here, new england, and on tap. It's rebel ipa. It's an east coast version of a west coast ipa. heavy on hops, but no bitter bite. Sounds delish...

real down to earth guy, very respectful of fellow brewers, and it seems he has gathered the same from them.

Black Toad Ale - Great body, balanced, coffee hint, a little spice, lingering finish, lighter carbonation than most other dark ales. Served at about 45 degrees F. Just might have another.
