"Filled with mingled cream and amber
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chambers of my brain

Come to life and fade away;
Who cares how time advances?
I am drinking ale today."

Re: Mr. B seasonal sale
I have tasted it in EVERY Mr. Beer HME. That is why after a few dme/lme brews I have not ordered anything from Mr. Beer.mashani wrote:PRIDE OF RINGWOOD. For those that claim bittering hops do not affect flavor, this is a prime example of why that's not true.Trollby wrote:I am sorry to say I believe the sales are WAYYYYYY down.
I think the new HME's have a funky twang I don't like (Wormwood?) and not buying their stuff since cooper's took over
Once I use up the stuff I bought before the forum issue is gone I will be making scratch
Although I do not taste it in everything. But some of the HME's it's really strong (Pilsner, Northwest Pale Ale).
I do not get a lot of POR in the seasonals but that doesn't mean it's not there. Everyone has a different threshold where they can taste it.

One differentiating feature of the MrB seasonals is that they actually list the hops used on those recipes. I have not seen Pride of Ringwood listed. They also ship with different dry yeast packets than the standard recipes. I brewed up a quick batch of the fall seasonal on Sunday and the Lallemand Nottingham yeast absolutely ripped! Did an OG of 1.066 and the krausen filled up the entire headspace of my LBK. Since I wasn't a fan of the nut brown seasonal that came out two years ago with Safale 04 yeast, I'm hopeful that this year's seasonal will be an improvement over that one from 2011.
I don't get emails from MrB, even though I still order from the web-site occasionally.

It is Coopers brewery's bittering hop of choice, so I am sure it exists in every one of them. If you get some coopers beer from the beer store you will taste it in those. In some they even use it as their flavoring hop. Apparently some people actually like it.brewin bull wrote:I have tasted it in EVERY Mr. Beer HME. For the most part I notice it more in the lighter colored more highly bittered extracts. It gets covered up somewhat by crystal malts and roasty malts, and it can be covered up by a late hop addition of a piney/woody hop like Simcoe or Northern Brewer or Zeus/Columbus.
I don't notice it so much I say the Canadian. Where in the Pils it's just overwhelming to me. I don't notice it in the stout or porter. I'm sure it's there but there is enough other stuff going on that it doesn't "bug" me like it does in the light bitter stuff.
This is why for "big cans" of HMEs, I recommend Muntons Gold over Coopers any day. Muntons Gold cans have nothing but good English hops in them.
Re: Mr. B seasonal sale
Get a bottle of Coopers Sparkling Ale if you want to know the flavor. That's what I did to confirm that that was what I was tasting. It's a single hop beer, using only PoR for bitter/flavor/aroma. Here's BYO's clone recipe: linky

Yeah, I have not tasted it in the seasonals, but I'm not willing to say that it's not there at all. I have a higher "it bugs me" threshold then some folks. The summer saison is actually very good. (assuming you like saisons).Rebel_B wrote:One differentiating feature of the MrB seasonals is that they actually list the hops used on those recipes. I have not seen Pride of Ringwood listed. EDIT: FWIW, if they send you a 20% coupon, it will stack with the seasonal sale. At $12.50/can w/decent yeast included, they are actually well worth it for a quick easy brew day as a pipeline filler. I pulled the trigger on some at that price. I'll turn the spring seasonal which isn't so great as an IPA into a 5 gallon batch of saison with just some dme and sugar and hops. That make for a super easy and cheap bunch of brew.
