Brewery tour

Post by Beer-lord »

Tomorrow, 6 of us are going to cajun country to visit Parish Brewing. I think the tour is only 1 hour and then you sit in the taproom a bit. It's about a 2 1/2 hour ride so we'll stop at one of those awesome restaurants the locals go to first, then hit the 1 or 2 pm tour and the taproom.
I may or may not take pictures as I don't think this is a fancy operation and they are still growing but I definitely will be drinking some Dr. Hoptagon and am thankful my sister in law has volunteered to be the designated driver on the way back. I pity here with 3-4 loud, tipsy folks riding back for 2 1/2 hours but she's a saint and will laugh about it later.
I'll report back later in the weekend.

Looks like a fun afternoon. Treat your driver well on the way back, or she may just stop and kick you out half way home, then you'll have to walk!!!

But if I have to walk, I'll have enough fumes in me to get me pretty far. :)

A brewery tour into the backwaters of a remote parish... hmmm ... you do not want to get thrown out of the car on the way home. But you might find a great place for some Jambalaya back up in there. Whoo wee I remember doing that as a kid.

Kind of rainy and overcast but a nice ride. We ate at a great restaurant then went to the brewery. It was small but managed well and they were very nice. Lots of beer wasn't available as they can't brew enough fast enough. They've already increased capacity twice and are going to add more.
No Dr. Hoptagon draft but we did get the bottled brew and enjoyed the heck out of it. They have a semi-hoppy pale ale called Envie that was very good. 5.5% and tasty and clean.
And I got 1 day old yeast (2 vials) for $5 each. Pure and clean! Hope to get to use it next week if I can come up with a quick Coconut IPA recipe that has me stumped.

Just a few pics today before my camera battery died. My iphone doesn't take great pics in poor light.
The last of Dr. Hoptagon until they brew more in Jan/Feb.

Definitely looked like a good time. Do you know what strain of yeast they use (something common like 1056, or a proprietary house strain)?

I love going to brewery tours. Especially small breweries. The ones where the tour guide isn't just some college kid who has practiced and memorized a few lines for the tour. Ones where the guide is one of the guys/gals that actually make the beer. And if you or some one in your group tells them you're/they're a home brewer the tour get even more in depth.
Things men have made with wakened hands, and put soft life into
Are awake through years with transferred touch and go on glowing
For long years.
And for this reason some old things are lovely
Warm still with the life of forgotten men who made them.
