Your Thoughts On Beersmith

Post by BB2 »

Users should have received an email from Brad Smith soliciting feedback. I hope, since the borg is an unique collective of small scale brewers, everyone will respond to Brads email. If enough of us give feedback, Beersmith could be made more friendly for 'the rest of us'.

Checked, I haven't received one from him. I bought and registered it from him this year.

I haven't heard a thing. I really don't know how much friendlier it can get though.

Has anyone tried brewer's friend? I wonder how it compares?

No email yet for me either, I think there's a update coming out next week (2.2 ver). I'm happy with the software as is, I do think the mash profile section could use some updating and some of the visual looks of the software need updating. There's a bit of a learning cure to figuring out this section, at least for me but I've pretty much got it down now.

I've used Brewer's Friend, and I like it. I have not used BeerSmith. I formulated a few recipes on Brewer's Friend for free, I haven't subscribed yet. I do like that it is online instead of a download. I also use the calculators regularly.

I've used both.
In fact I paid for a year of Brewer's Friend before I sprung for Beersmith.
IMHO, they are both good products.
Beersmith is quite a bit more intricate.
I liked Brewer's Friend for the simple fact I could do a recipe quickly and easily on my phone while I was at work.

No email for me, but I did get one from him about a year ago asking for input. So, maybe it's just a random sample that get contacted.

Looking forward to the v2.2 update - should make things better for extract brewers, if he addresses the issues he said he would.

You can do that with Beersmith now too. They have an app that lets you create and edit recipes.

Thanks Gymrat.
I haven't had the opportunity to check the App Store lately. I will definitely look into that while I work this holiday away!

I finally got the nag that there was an update and like the small changes. I read this but never thought to check their site for an update and when I ran the program, it reminded me.

The funny thing is that even though Ive paid for v2.x, Im still using 1.x for the most part as I do most of my formulating on my work laptop at lunch. Ive figured out how to get v1.x on a USB stick but not 2.x, as I have to do this to run portable as my company will not allow us peons to install their own software. If anyone knows how to do a portable install I would be interested in hearing how.

I just updated my copy now. I like the way that the recipes come up the way they do on the cloud page. Haven't really messed with it yet though.
