No Airlock Activity, then..

Post by John Sand »

I know, lack of airlock activity on the bucket is not an indication of no fermentation. But we all want to see it right? So, 30 hours after pitching, nothing. But the temp was up five degrees. So it must be fermenting, right? I press down on the lid to make sure it's airtight. Still nothing. Just for kicks I push the airlock a bit tighter into it's gasket. Instant and steady bubbles. :banana: And it smells great.
Making beer and stew for the Zombie Apocalypse.
Never mind, there it is.

2 reasons I hate buckets... cant watch the yeast... and the seals often suck so theres no airlock activity often.
2 reasons I like buckets... 5 gallon volume... easy cleanup... and my autosiphon works better due to the height of the bucket... THREE three reasons I like buckets....
I wasn't expecting a sort of Spanish inquisition...

"Filled with mingled cream and amber
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chambers of my brain
-- Quaintest thoughts -- Queerest fancies
Come to life and fade away;
Who cares how time advances?
I am drinking ale today."

This is my Wee Heavy from 3 years ago. That was when I learned about blow off tubes

Then I pulled the air lock out. It was like shaking up a coke can and opening it.
