Re: Pliny the Elder
Sorry to hear about your buddy Jeff and I hope they caught in time for treatment.
FWIW: My doc was telling me about using ginger instead of NSAIDs for inflammation so when I was reading about it another benefit it has is for anti nausea during chemo.
Just got some yesterday and made a tea/tisane to sip on. Maybe if he needs chemo you could make some ginger beer; it's not like the beer we make except in the carbonation from what I understand.
Do tell him that there are a lot of us rooting for a quick and full recovery.

Sh*t, just looked over and saw my glass is empty, be right back....
.....ok, back now. Poured a glass of my Sublimely Self-Righteous. There has been an odd taste in this I can't nail down.
Should send one each to my 3 amigos and see what they think.
Anyway, on to the Pliny. This has been on the gas for 6 days now. For those who have not dry hopped in a keg, this is a first pour and nothing to worry about (though I did my first time) and taste (just knew I'd ruined my beer), ended up being my best IPA to date (Belas IPA). The cloudiness will clear in the keg. The aroma coming from this glass has me looking around for the pine cone that was pissed on by one of my cats, it's that strong. Man I love it. The taste is like peeling the enamel off your teeth with that urine soaked pine cone. Will revisit in another 6 days and post again. For those who had the first one, think one notch up.
Until then, stay looking for that cat my friends.

"the pine cone that was pissed on by one of my cats". Now that's quite the description. Glad your enjoying it. And my glass is empty too, time for a refill.

NONE of that sounds appetizing!Inkleg wrote:The aroma coming from this glass has me looking around for the pine cone that was pissed on by one of my cats, it's that strong. Man I love it. The taste is like peeling the enamel off your teeth with that urine soaked pine cone.
Re: Pliny the Elder
But I think you need to put it on BeerAdvocate!
Making beer and stew for the Zombie Apocalypse.
Never mind, there it is.

Re: Pliny the Elder
Jeff, did you dry hop in the keg in place of the fermenter or in addition to? And, what hops did you use?
Pour me one, I happen to like cat piss!

"pine cone that was pissed on by one of my cats" classic!! I love that description and yes it makes my mouth water Love the keg hops, I just tried it for the first time with the RCE recipe Ron and I did and it blew me away. I remember the first couple pours seemed more bitter than it should have been, but as the beer cleared it smoothed out a bit.
Re: Pliny the Elder
Paul, I did the first dry hop of 1oz each of Centennial, Columbus and Simcoe for 11 days, skipped the 2nd dry hop of .25oz in the fermenter and went with 1oz each of the same in the keg.

Mmm. cloudy (hairless) cat piss. You really know how to sell a beer, Jeff. Any chance you are in Marketing?
Re: Pliny the Elder
Wow it's been 10 days since the last post already. Where does the time go?
That aroma is still there just not as intense, but still pine cone/cat piss heavy Simcoe/Columbus. As the picture shows, has cleared quite a bit. This one is a bit thinner on mouth feel and less malty which brings more hops forward that the first one. This seems closer to the Pliny that Ron sent me. Soon some will go out to those who suffer as my Hop Head taste testers.

Oh boy! Can't wait to hear how this comes out. Is this the same kit (discounted) you used before? Doing anything different?
I'll likely wait until late January or February to do this but I have to give it a try again.

Yup, it's the same thing as last time. From the buy one get one free deal. I'm not doing anything different. It was good last time, so chances are it will be good this time. I really wanted to do my Red Stag IPA, but didn't have a chance to go to the LHBS.

Hope all went well with your brew day Chris and things are going thump, thump, thump this morning. If this batch is like your last, you will just have to "suffer" through all 5 gallons.
