If I put the carboy on the floor, instead of on the bench, it probably would drop the wort temp into the high 50s. I don't know how long it would last, though, is the problem. I have a lager fridge anyway, and I'm planning on making another batch of Pearly Pils after the competition, so I have it for summer. I can only do a couple of lagers a year, since they take a long time and take up a lot of space.

My next brew is going to be my first lager. I'm still trying to decide what to make.
Maybe I'll pick a recipe from "Brewin Classic Styles"

We are deciding that if I can brew soon re: my thumb issue that we can do a Kolsch and/or steam on the empty side of our house. It's not a basement we just have it shut down for heat and AC so on the floor we were getting ambient temps of 61. By Jan. or Feb., if I can brew, we won't do lagers but we likes us a good Kolsch in the mix.

WOW it just occurred to me that as many states as we have lived in the closest we have had to a basement is a crawl space. You basement guys are lucky in being able to brew except it means you have to deal with brutal winters.

Lagers away Dave and keep us posted. :fedora:

That's a good idea. The recipe is less important than the process, at this point. Once you have the confidence, you can put your own recipes together.

8 inches of snow yesterday. We call them "seasons" and have 4 of them. I love all of them but could give up summer. Three Falls and a winter would be great.

I vote for three Springs and a Winter as I really, really hate cleaning the fallen leaves from the gutters.

My garage is lager temp now, so I brewed a lager this weekend, a modification of the One Evil (Pilothouse) Pilsner using w-34/70 lager yeast. Temp in in upper 40's and has a nice krausen layer.

My garage is also at lager temps. I haven't done any research into making a nice lager.

How short of a turn-around-time can one brew up a lager in?

I cross country ski in the winter, and I look forward to it. I would not move by choice to anywhere that I did not get enough snow to do it. It's a nice break from "run, bike, swim" the rest of the year.

Anyways, OT my basement right now I can keep 55-57 temps, so I may make some lagers or at least pseudo lagers soon.

I learned how to cross country ski in the army. I thought it was a blast. Sure beat the hell out of walkin' around all "pigeon toed" in snow shoes. :)
