Re: What are you drinking?
Not a pic I took, but that's what I'm drinking. It's a blend of 4 different saisons the harpoon people made.
I taste French Saison yeast. I taste a duval like Belgian strain, something like Belgian Strong Ale. That is good.
The rest of it is ok. Nothing "wrong" with it, it's ok. Citrusy hops, huge initial head due to high carb, but it falls quickly to nothing. Dry, tart, citrus, pepper. No lacing.
Tastes like a saison made by an American basically...
All of the saisons I made over the summer are better beers - even the brett infected one. At least to my tastes. And I got a case out of each for the equivalent price of a six pack of this more or less.
So I will just keep on brewing on...
EDIT: Bottle seems well made. I will save it to put some saison next summer in glass, to send to someone as a gift.

Re: OKtoberfest plus
Good for you Brian! It's great when an experiment works out.Brian N- wrote:Started with a can of the Mr. Beer Oktoberfest, added 8 oz LME, steeped 1 pound Vienna, 1/2 oz fuggle for 50 minutes. I used US-05 yeast. Very clean taste, more like a larger than an ale. Not too malty, good body and head retention. Slightly over carbonated (my fault). Next time I'll use the correct hops and more of them, skip the LME and add more grain. With all that said - for my first partial grain beer, I think I did very well. Also, It had just 5 weeks in the bottle. I would bet the beer has more flavor to develop over the next month or two.

Re: What are you drinking?
We like our Keurig as well. This one going into the machine for me...
Have you tried these? About half the cost of the Keurig approved ones (we pay $0.28/serving using Amazon Subscribe and Save compared to the $0.55-0.65/serving or so we were paying for actual k-cups), and 97% biodegradable (which is the main enviro complaint I've seen about the original cups):
The obvious drawback is that they aren't sealed containers, so you have to store them as you would regular ground coffee (in some kind of sealed vessel)...

Re: What are you drinking?
I've seen those on Amazon and they look neat! How is the flavor? Some of the ones I've tried so far (that came with the machine, or in the pack that mom got us for Christmas) are pretty thin bodied. I'm looking for something a little fuller, particularly looking for an espresso type that will satisfy my craving for Cuban coffee every now and then. Do they make an espresso?
Re: What are you drinking?
We like the flavor as well as the others we have tried, and actually find them to be stronger than the comparable roasts in the k-cups we used to get. We get Foglifter and Rainforest Blend on alternating months on our shipment, and both are bold roasts and are strong enough to even use a single one-cup for a large travel mug.
EDIT: Here are all of their flavors. You can order a sample of each from this link. Amazon only seems to offer 4-5 of these flavors. They have an espresso roast listed on there, but I'm not sure if Amazon carries it.
RE-EDIT: Actually, Amazon does carry the Espresso Roast.
EDIT x3: I should also mention that Kroger (and, I'm assuming, some other grocers) carry these under a Kroger Private Selection name. Not as cheap as Amazon, but cheaper than K-Cups there.

Never drink coffee. That stuff'll kill ya!
Really, I love it, but it bothers my stomach. Haven't had a cup in years.

Re: What are you drinking?
Last night I had a couple pints of my HCCD Mod where I went for a mild IPA.
Sometimes I think I'm nuts but the hops flavor and aroma seem to come out better in a 1/2 Litre (Swing top or PET) versus the 1 Litre PETS. Like it's more concentrated or something.
