Kealia's Full Moon. I haven't had Blue Moon in ages, so I don't know how it rates as a clone, but what I can note is... Pours a cloudy amber/orange with a small ring of white head that's sticking around. No strong aromas... only a bit of pepper and yeast. Flavor is wheat, but no hefe yeast flavors (which is fine by me... I'm guessing maybe a clean ale yeast here... US-05?), as well as orange and peppery notes. Slightly sweet with a moderate mouthfeel. Very drinkable. Nicely done...

Hey, cool! yep, it's Us-05. The haze comes from a bit corn starch in the boil to make it purposely that way.

Tonight I'm trying to kill the keg of Hop Miser (RCE IPA).

I had a flight of beers while my wife had a flight of wine on New Years Eve afternoon. The beers, from left to right are "New Belgium IPA", "North Coast Scrimshaw Pilsner", "Left Hand Milk Stout" and "Blanche de Bruxelles - Belgian White." I enjoyed all of them and they were a good representation of each style. Happy New Year!

Blanche de Bruxelles (aka Pissing Baby beer) epitomizes the witbier style. Love that one. Have yet to try the Left Hand milk stout but I hear it's fantastic. Were you at Eola Wine Co in Park Ave? The street and tables look familiar.

Side note: I'm drinking a Bubs' Pale Ale.

You've got it Phil. I was wondering if you would spot that. My wife and I love to hang out at Winter Park.

Sour, salty, musty, a bit herbal. Turns fruity, woody and more straw. Like...

Tipping my sour to beer friends that have gone too soon. RIP Curtis...

Kvass at Turtle Anarchy (our local brewery)...

Image

I've long considered doing a Kvass, so I had to make it out to the brewery this week when I heard they had one on tap. Kvass is a traditional eastern Europe beverage, normally low grav (maybe 1.5%ish). You basically take some rye sourdough bread, toast it lightly, soak it in water overnight, and then ferment with bread yeast or lacto. The sourdough brings some sour yeast to the table, and the rye brings spiciness. Turtle hit 4.5% on theirs, and the brewer was not there, so I couldn't quiz, but I think they must have blended with a traditional mash. I know that they did do the traditional bread thing though... Murky amber, no hops so no bitter, some sour, and rye spice. Very tasty...

Also did a sampler tour through Another Way to Rye (Rye IPA), Smokeless Mirrors (stout with cinnamon, chipotle, and Mexican chocolate), What the Fudge (chocolate stout), and 1864 (smoked English pale). #supportYourLocalBrewery
