Great day for a workout

Post by mtsoxfan »

So the snow and bitter cold is here in CT..... Didn't get as much snow as predicted, maybe 7-8", but work called off. Started the day by shoveling the roof, 75x15 to get snow off solar panels, a quick breakfast and then onto the driveway, walkway, neighbors driveway.....I even shoveled the residual snow off the driveway so the sun would clear it all up. Not too OCD....
3 hours later, and sweaty, I feel good.... gonna build a fire to keep my princess happy, and maybe a pint or two for me. Depending on who you listen to, -10* overnight, daytime windchills to -20.... I like it, wife.... no so much. I'm sure for FIT and other Northern neighbors, this is just another day...

Sounds amazing to me as I am originally from WI. Today is the "coldest" day of the season down here in FL. Woke up to low 40s with a high in the 50s. Take what I can get.

Zero this morning in Michigan. Supposed to be a wind chill of -15, but there is no wind. Got about 8", another 5-8 coming on Sunday.

Man, I do not envy you guys. So, I won't brag about night time lows in the high 20's and daytime highs near 60.

Stay safe, and warm if you can.

I didn't see this thread before posting in the no-post thread, but here's tonight's forecast:

EDIT: The Friday night low prediction, which is no longer on the website, was -16.

In all my years living in this area, I don't think I've ever seen a predicted temp that low. Wind chill, yes. Temp, no.

Crazy, I'm just to the east of you. The forecasters change their prediction everyday. I think tonights forecasted temp has been predicted anywhere from -16 to 5. they couldn't even get this snowstorm right. Where I am ws predicted 8-16. OK, we did get about 8, most of the state got 4-8 but the sensationalizing they do. When they were off, they now are scaring people into digging the snow away from their foundations..... to prevent flooding. They didn't even say that last year when we got over 36" in a storm....

Agreed, soxfan - sensationalism = ratings, so we don't get objective reporting any more, we get "this is the END OF CIVILIZATION!!!" every time it snows.
They predicted 6-10" for us, and we probably got 6" or 7". Strange, though, cuz the first 24 hours of snowfall yielded about 2", and then overnight we got more than double that.

PS - they've updated that 7-day forecast link, so Friday's -16 low no longer shows up. But their website now has the low predicted as -12 to -18 for tonight.
The high today was 13, and we're at 7-above right now.

Not surprisingly, they did overestimate the deep-freeze for last night. They were predicting lows of -12 to -18, and it only(?) got down to -7 overnight. It was still below zero when I brought my son to basketball this morning -- not fun at all. But now we're up to a more typical temp, 22*.

As gwcr aptly put it, "Not sure I signed up for this..."

I have a double wide driveway, and as cold as it is, I can sit in a chair, drinking a beer, and stay warm. It faces south and has had sun on it all day....

not the temps y'all are talkin' about, but thought this was amusing. watching a local forecast. it called for a low of 15 and a high of 32 mon. and a 30% chance of rain... they have since changed it to snow, and moved it to tues. instead of mon.

Sounds like they need to call their sister station in Chicago and ask them how to do a winter forecast.

THE GREAT BLIZZARD OF 2014!!!!!

Run for your lives!!!

Being from MI living in KS, I have to laugh at these dumbshit weather people who get on the TV and tell me how horrible the 3 inches of snow that "might be coming" is going to be.

Pu-leaeeeeze. I grew up 10 miles from the Big Mac Bridge and drove a 1975 Camaro in the snow (and I mean a LOT of snow) with no chains and no "traction control" back in the 80's.

We invented "drifting" way before those idiots with rice burner cars did.......that was just how you drove.
