Re: Bottling and Capping
So far I've only done about 2 batches with mine so not a whole lot of use but so far no issues. It didn't really come with instructions, just some piece of paper with tips and caution/warnings about where and how to use it so I went on youtube and can't remember if it was Northern Brewer or who has a channel with instructions on using it.
Good judgment comes from experience, which comes from poor judgment.
Re: Bottling and Capping
No problems at all with mine. Bottled 15-20 batches with it. Looks like this person either got a defective one, or was just venting. I'm kegging now, but will still use it to bottle a few here and there.
Fermenting: Bucket 1 - Fresh Squeezed IPA; Bucket 2 - Empty
Kegged: Keg 1 - Irish Red; Keg 2 - Cream Ale; Keg 3 - Amber Ale; Keg 4 - APA; Keg 5 - Empty; Keg 6 - Empty; Keg 7 - Empty

Re: Bottling and Capping
I got a SA and I did indeed loose my magnet, but found it later in a bottle of beer*. after a drop of superglue, it has not been an issue. that's the only problem I've had with my AG and even that didn't slow us down much.(swmbo helps bottling)
*
rinsed the bottle out, and there was this little black spot on the ss sink. that I just couldn't rinse off...then it dawned on me.

Re: Bottling and Capping
Yeah I saw all those bad reviews and it made me stop and think for a moment, but I went ahead and got one and it has always worked fine. So I don't know what they are talking about. It makes capping bottles a breeze. I would get one.

Re: Bottling and Capping
I have had my SA for a couple of years now. I have had to tighten bolts from time to time but that is the only issue I have ever had with it.
Re: Bottling and Capping
Yeah, I forgot about tightening the bolts. Normal maintanance I'd say... I guess I am the only one who miss used and boogered up the plastic plug.
It's not necesary, but I, and others, screwed the capper onto a wood base to increase the stability. I happened to have saved a sink cutout, perfect size for me.

Re: Bottling and Capping
I did have a problem with the plastic piece that the bell screws into. I started noticing a little witness mark on the caps, not really paying attention for awhile until it started to annoy me since it did not happen at first. Apparently the bell skipped a thread and was on crooked. Removing the bell caused the plastic piece to permanently skip a thread so I needed to spend some time rethreading it so the bell would seat properly. I dunno if it simply came loose and I didnt notice it and popped up or what. So far havent had any other problems but hope that is a part I can buy should it fail for good. If it does, I think I will opt for something a tad more expensive that can handle both wine and beer bottles as the hand held wine corker I have is a pain.

I picked up a spring tip filler and will stick with the red wing capper for now but good to know the bench cappers are a good option! Love you guys!

Re: Bottling and Capping
A note on the spring tipped filler: if you notice it dripping there may be hop particles in the tip so you will need to close the spigot on your bottling bucket and take the tip apart to rinse it don't forget to re-sanitize it).D34THSPAWN wrote:I picked up a spring tip filler and will stick with the red wing capper for now but good to know the bench cappers are a good option! Also be careful that you are not "crushing" the black tip into the bottom of the bottle. If the tip gets bent it could cause dripping as well.

Thank you my adoring public. Wait, is ONE referred to as public? Or does that default to "fan". And, if only one, does that make you a stalker?BrownstotheBone wrote:I don't think RickBeer's sense of humor is getting enough recognition around here.RickBeer wrote:Wow, this is a family site...John Sand wrote:Sometimes my filler drips more, jiggling the tip helps seat it better.
