Saturday at 10:30 AM there will be a 'Polar Bear Plunge' in Lake Union Seattle, WA. I have 9 of my co-workers signed-up to take the plunge. I will take pictures tomorrow. That's right, I'll be the dry one one taking pictures of the wet ones!

I think I'm gonna run out this morning and get the ingredients for a beef stew. I made some a month or so ago in the slow-cooker, and it turned out very well. I think I know how to improve it, though, so I want to make more and test my theories.

Besides, a hearty beef stew is a great meal when the weather is really cold and rotten like this.

Ten mins. into the hop boil ran out of propane for my burner. Made a quick switch with another tank that is quite low also but I think it will make it. Over 30 mins in right now. It's sometimes hard to tell how much is left in the tank.

Got it done but was cutting it close at the end. Now I can get both tanks filled again and be good for quite awhile.

Your post made me want stew as well, so I did a grocery run and picked up the ingredients for a Guinness beef stew that I'll throw in the slow cooker tomorrow morning.

Had a rack of bones from a prime rib, cut the meat off and made a stock. Diced the meat and made a dy-no-mite beef noodle soup. The stock was too good/rich for a soup, but I promised a soup, so soup she got....

Had a fun day, albeit very eventful! Did not want to go, but had to go to town today. The roads are still like an ice skating rink, could not drive over 20 mph it was soooo slick. Well, half way to town, the car started having serious problems. The eng went to low power mode which is basically running on 3 cylinders. The whole front end started shaking badly, the ABS quit working, traction control quit working.... it got real scary real fast. Wife was totally freaked out (as was I, but had to keep a grip as to not make my wife totally lose it...). Made it to town to the stealership, they said we can work on it, will take a while to fix it, but they can't get to it for 2 weeks. I'm like OH POOP, I need my car, have no way home, wife needs a car to make it too work, we r just totally screwed. The repair guy said sorry, we have no rentals to give you. I said I don't give a poop (by this time I was mad as hell), pull a new eff'n car off the lot and give me the damn keys. He all of a sudden found a rental car for us to use. I think he finally got the idea I was not going to accept his BS. Then I told him to look in the computer and check our warranty. He did and said *what ya know, your still under warranty*. I again told him.. no poop!! So, to make stories short, it will be fully repaired at their expense and the rental car is covered under their warranty. This is good news for us, but sure made for icing on top the frigid cake so to speak. My car (err, better half's car) is a 2011 Buick. Sure enjoyed the beer and steak at Applebees after that.

Made the stew last night and woke up this morning to a wonderfully aromatic house. Put some finishing touches into it (still needed more salt and hot sauce), and giving it another 30 minutes or so before I portion it out and freeze it.

So simple, yet so satisfying.
