Woke up this morning as a typical morning until I walked out to leave for work and saw this five houses down from us.

One of our neighbors houses was up in flames. Horrible to see. It looked as though everyone did get out ok and I don't believe anyone was injured. Really throws everything into perspective for you as you never know when something like this could happen. It can all be taken away in a second.

Looks like it started in the garage. I'll bet he had his car sitting on a battery charger.
Things men have made with wakened hands, and put soft life into
Are awake through years with transferred touch and go on glowing
For long years.
And for this reason some old things are lovely
Warm still with the life of forgotten men who made them.

Re: Not what you expect in the morning
I remember how scary was the first house fire I saw as a teen. Later, as a Coast Guardsman and a cop, I had to deal with fires up close. When I worked in a village, I was first on scene to a terrific house fire. The place was consumed rather quickly. The family (I knew them) sat at the end of the driveway sobbing. The husband told me that he owned nothing anymore, not even a shirt. I told him that he still had his family (even the dog survived). And that he had good neighbors, as they'd already started bringing over supplies, shopping for his kids, and offering to take them all in. The fire was caused by a high end refrigerator. The motor seized and overheated. My chief and I got the records, from the time the smoke alarm went off to my arrival was ten minutes. At that time the flames were pouring out the windows so hot that you couldn't approach the house. I got sunburned just standing across the yard. So, if you have a structure fire, sound the alarm and get out.
