Well, yesterday I put a serious dent into my brewing funds. We went out and got SWMBO a 2014 Nissan Rogue AWD. Needless to say, that's a chunk of money per month that will no longer to any of the brew supply stores. That's OK though. She needed to get something different. She was driving a 2003 Caravan. It wasn't falling apart at all, but was definately showing its age. Trade in value on that thing is only about 1500 bucks, so we held on to it. My college kid had his car stolen off campus about a month ago. (I was off line at that time, so never got in here to rant about humanity when that happened.) So he and his fiance will get the minivan. It might not be cool, but it is reliable. It's perfect for the little amount of driving they do. My wife has her new winter vehicle, which is quite handy up here. And as the saying goes, happy wife, happy life. :-)

Congrats on the new vehicle. I've been looking at AWD for 2 months now, just waiting for a real sale so I can afford one. Nissan has been pushing out some good looking incentives as of late.Sounds like I need to build up my pipeline before I get one... :)

I hate car payments. Paying interest on something that is depreciating is like double jeopardy. But if I was married I would probably have them. It doesn't bother me to drive around in cars that are 12 years old and more. And I really haven't had any problems doing so. But I would want something newer if I had a significant other that I didn't want to experience a breakdown.

You just nailed it. This is HER car. I drive a 1989 F-250 which has never let me down. It just has a serious drinking problem at 11 mpg. And a 1995 Escort that get 28 mpg. And if either of them has a problem, I don't need a computer science degree to work on them.

This belongs on the front page. Without it we may start talking about beer or something.

Thanks BigPapaG.
Things men have made with wakened hands, and put soft life into
Are awake through years with transferred touch and go on glowing
For long years.
And for this reason some old things are lovely
Warm still with the life of forgotten men who made them.

Unbelievable, a week ago in the minus digits and a nasty wind chill on top of it with blowing snow, today in the high 50's. It did rain a little but a nice day for January.

I'm not brewing or bottling anything today so I thought it would be a good day to cook up a big batch of Chili to take to work tomorrow to share with my co-workers. I use my home canned tomatoes and tomato paste, have 3 kinds of ground meat = Pork, Venison, and Beef. I use the Carroll Shelby's boxed spice kits, http://www.carrollshelbyschili.com/site.php I'll put it in my slow cooker pot and let it simmer all night. Mmm Mmm Good.

Chili is greatly appreciated in this kind of weather, Berry. Me, I've got a lot of beef stew in the freezer. But my next major batch o' food may just be chili. I sure do like it, especially with homebrew.

Same here, a small bit of rain sat but today none. Hit 40s today... unreal for jan! Not complaining, loved it, was out shoveling snow in short sleeves.

Speaking of the Carroll Shelby chili kit, I had one and made it up:
