Re: Mr. Beer loyalty
I joined the Mr Beer site because of all the great advice and people willing to share openly. No snobs, and disagreements were handled well. So here I am, trying to learn more about home brewing. Most often I just read and don't post; hopefully this will be a great place to learn. However, I am not going to abandon the Mr. Beer site, there are still many who may post some good information and share their experiences.

No worries Brian N-... you are free to visit any site you wish. We're not that snobbish.

You can most definitely learn things here and hopefully, you'll teach others as you learn more about this great hobby.

Thanks for the welcome. Looking forward to reading about your experiences, triumphs and perhaps some not so successful brews.

Re: Mr. Beer loyalty
I'm waaaaay back on page one of this thread, and probably should read further before posting, but I'll agree that if a trub valve is added to the LBC, I will probably be picking up a few.
As for Mr. B's stuff... well... I had pretty much stopped buying stuff from them ages ago for AG, but then last year picked up a few variety packs at a local clearance store just for old times sake (and because they were super cheap). Following that, I made my first actual purchase in years from them when the new deluxe (or whatever they called them) extracts came out, and, of course, right after that they dropped a couple huge boxes of product at my door via the contest. The contest proved to be good and bad... On one hand, it was nice to have all of the new products on hand (I still have about 7 extracts, and a smattering of yeast and hops), but it severely cut into my AG brewing (yeah, first world problems). And, by giving me all of that product, I haven't had a reason to buy from them since. Plus, I haven't been that impressed, quite honestly. I can do much better (and cheaper) with AG. I can match the time exerted and still save money with extracts from the LHBS. I can't imagine ever purchasing from them again.
That all being said, as others have noted, I have a sense of loyalty to them. They helped me get to where I am as a brewer. Without them I likely would have never tried. I think it is a great jumping-in point for curious non-brewers. Of course, new brewers can jump in with LHBS extracts just as easily, but I think that I would have been intimidated to go into the LHBS with no brewing experience to be quite honest. That all is why it pains me to totally abandon them, but that forum is darn near unusable. As I said in my last post over there, I'll likely check back in a month or so and see if it is any more usable.
In the meantime, I'm going to try to get more active here. I haven't brewed since May, so I'm itching to get going. Cool Springs Brewery harvested some Conan yeast for me a few weeks back, so I need to figure out what to do with it. Times a wastin'...

Re: Mr. Beer loyalty
Welcome aboard Swen! I will admit to still being a fan of the occasional Mr B seasonal. I'm really enjoying the summer Biere De Saison, but even then, my homebrewed all grain Saison tastes even better.

Re: Mr. Beer loyalty
I have no loyalty to Mr. Beer. I made a couple of purchases, but that's it. I am grateful to them for having the (formerly) best forum around. Met some great people online, gained some valuable info, and had the chance to share with others.
Re: Mr. Beer loyalty
It appears someone from Mr. Beer is trying to stay active on the board. Diane posted a link but no comments at all on the forum.
