Whilst brewing today, the evil twin came by and we shared a bomber of his Blind Pig clone. Never having one and knowing this is listed as an IPA (bottom of the scale) and really is a hoppy pale ale (top of the scale) it's hard to say how it compares. But, the hell with that! It's an awesome beer. I had a Stone IPA at a music club last night that I paid $6 for and this one blew that out.
OK, so it's not a hop bomb but it has taste galore. Again, it may be a polar opposite from the real thing and I'll likely never get to try the real one but, I could drink this all night. The aroma was mild but there was notes of pine and citrus. The head would not quick and was a perfect meringue that stayed throughout the beer. It poured very clear and was perfectly carbed.
It was VERY clean tasting and a bit dry. The twin thinks it needs something to finish with but I disagree. I like the fact that you get the same taste and smooth flavor all the way thru the sip. There is absolutely nothing at all I can knock on this beer save for the fact I don't know how close it comes to Russian River's version. I just know it has to be brewed again. IPA or Pale Ale, this one is a winner. The twin has come into his own and now is a master.

After reading your review I agree with Inkleg. The goal may have been a clone and not hit the mark as far as he was concerned but if he ended up with an awesome brew that you, he or anyone else wants to drink over and over he did an even better job by creating something really great that he can call his own.
Redbeard you can always try to match (clone) your target again but it sounds like you brewed a winner with this one.
Well what he's not telling you guys is that he helped me brew this beer (franky almost all of my brews) and that he's taught me everything I know so, he is the co-brewer of this beer.
I'm happy of it's clarity and head, but I'd like a tad more satisfying finish. That said, it's definitely a quality product.

THANK YOU I have been trying to solve the mystery of his new avatar in vane ( though not familiar with monty python as BB2 ) I thought it was a young Oppenhiemer or Burton.
Now if Ink reveals it I won't have to search images for days.
It's Graham Chapman who died ages ago. I think the late 80's or early 90's. I love those guys and The Holy Grail is in my top 5 all time favorite movies. I use to have much of it memorized I watched it so much (as I did with The Rocky Horror Picture Show) but I'm showing my age.

I've had the original and rated it as 'good'. I don't know which hops are in this, but I commented that they weren't my favorites. I listed it as a good, crisp IPA that didn't drink like a 6.5% beer.
Mind posting the recipe? I'd just like to know what I was drinking.
RedBEERd did a google, found a number of similar recipes and settled on one from a Bertus Brewery blog. This guy goes into some detail for many of his brews and he is sometimes and interesting read.
I didn't put this into Beersmith and he doesn't have Beersmith yet but we followed this recipe.
We never used this yeast before and I'm very pleased with it and hope to brew this myself later in the spring.

I think we increased the dry hops by something like 20% based on something he said in the blog (between his first try at this and his second) and used some simcoe as well, maybe because we didn't have enough Centennial on hand?
My notes show dry hopping as: .65 oz each of simcoe, amarillo, cascade and ctz for 7 days at roughly 14 days fermenting.
I think I will open another bomber this weekend to see how it's aging, and because I like beer!
