Re: Hello
Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. You guys rock!
Just picked up the Patriot 2 for 1 deal and and an Oktoberfest. Like the all malt option. Been thinking about looking into options other than MrB. I like the small batch size though. I like sampling some of this and some of that. It's fun to take SWMBO to the beer store. I think of it as getting even for all those shopping trips she drags me on.

Re: Hello
I think it is good that you are looking into other options besides MR B. Make sure you check out Brew Demon. How far into brewing are looking into. Staying with the HME's?? Are you going to get into doing hop boils, Partial Mashing and/or All Grain? You'll find 5 gallon kits generally to be more cost efficient. A lot of guys split the batch between 2 LBK's or BDC's. Doing that is a good way to learn how different yeasts can give you 2 totally different beers. Welcome and enjoy the ride

Re: Hello
Been thinking of doing some extract and a hop boil and maybe a steep next. May try a BIAB recipe but figure I'll need some more toys first. Gotta read up on it and figure out what I need. At this point I don't know enough about it to know what I don't know.
Re: Hello
if you can do a steep you can do a Partial Mash. The PM needs have the mash temp held for an hour and a PM will open more avenues in your quest for better beer. Also you do not need any additional equipment. Either way adding grain and a yeast that is true to the style you are brewing will make a marked difference in your beers.

Re: Hello
After you do a steep which is a big improvement on extract brewing (what I mainly do) and a hop boil, A BIAB partial is not that much harder or more to do. I found this link a while back and it helped me a lot. http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/easy-pa ... ics-75231/GOF wrote:Been thinking of doing some extract and a hop boil and maybe a steep next.
