I don't think it'll be so bad and I never did. They always go overboard and I understand that. But, I feel for those who lose a day of work and don't get paid for it. Those are the ones who can least afford losing a day.
Agreed for sure on the people losing days who can't and others going overboard as they always seem to do.

Austin is in a bad way right now. The sleet and freezing rain started right before rush hour and all the bridges iced over. There was a 20 car pile up and over a dozen accident reports in a 2 hour period. Then they just started closing all the major highways down. Don't know where all the sand trucks went today they were all out in force last week when we had a similar event.

One of the photo journalists called into the news room the he was on his way to work and he rolled his truck. No other car involved just hit black ice, while he was on the phone a car went by him going to fast and spun out about three times.

It appears there is a lot of black ice with this storm so you guys to the east be careful on the roads.

So he was driving while on the phone? Bluetooth or using one of his hands? Glad he's ok.

No he had already crawled out of his overturned truck. The station then went to a live shot of another crew, with dash cam rolling, that was driving around looking for icy spots. :wow:

Sounds like they were out looking for a place to become the story. "OMG! The roads are bad. I got an idea! Let's go out and drive on them!" Morons.

Phoenix winter storm coming: going to be below 70* starting next week with lows in the 40's...fricking winter storms absolutely hate 'em. Deep ass thoughts for the rest of the country though. Y'all take care and at least try to stay warm and safe, please (absolutely no sarcasm but true from the heart thoughts)

fla panhandle here... I would laugh at this 'winter storm' were it not for the fact that 99% of the ppl here have a hard enough time driving in rain let alone ice. I remember storms in Detroit when I was a kid where everything was covered in ice. there was so much ice at times people's awnings would collapse. telephone poles looked like ice sculptures. hopefully this is just much ado about nothing for my area in the end.

Ice storms are the worst! Last bad one in my area, we didn't have power for three days and the roads to our neighborhood were closed for two days. The downhill entrance was closed cause of all the wrecked cars and the uphill entrance was closed cause of all the trees and limbs that came down on the road.

So far, we survived. Almost no power outages and the precip in quantities, didn't happen. We had enough freezing rain that it's still in my yard and many of the overpasses and bridges are closed but it wasn't as bad here as it could hVe been. And since we will barely get above freezing, many places are still closed. The airport may open at 1 pm today.
Guess I'll go into work around noon if it gets a little better though I'll have no customers.

I hope my other southern brothren faired well too.

I hear there are still cars abandoned on the interstate in Atlanta. People walked to stores and schools to spend the night. And only a small amount of snow fell. This just shows how we in the south aren't prepared for this stuff. It wasn't the snow but the ice that caused problems on elevated roadways so they couldn't go anywhere. Hope it warms up enough to clear things up.
Georgians, check in.

I walked out to take the pictures, looked down and noticed paw prints. After a closer look, noticed it wasn't our outdoor kitty, but one of the foxes my wife had taken photos and video of last year.
She was just beside herself as I tracked where he had come from and gone to. After all see watched them grow up. This one was a male because he had marked the snow covered rocks on our front walkway (I may or may not know what peeing in snow looks like  ). I told Jody, he's saying he loves you. She smiled even bigger.
