Isn't it ironic...

Post by LouieMacGoo »

...that I am a home brewer and creator of a website centered around home brewing yet I cannot drink alcohol!

Yes you read that right! I'm going to give the Readers Digest abridged version here to spare you all the gory details and not bore everyone. Unfortunately about a week a go I started having belly pain that caused me to miss several days of work. Honestly I haven't been feeling all that great for about a month but just chalked it up to work and weather or whatever else I could think of. Anyway for the most part the pain went away but there were some "plumbing" issues that continued to haunt me and cause discomfort and occasional pain. Today I decided to go to the doctor and find out why I was still not 100%. After the exam the doc believes I may have diverticulitis! We are still waiting on some blood tests and I have to prep for a CT in the morning. These tests will help confirm the diagnosis or at least give us an idea of what might be going on if not diverticulitis. In the mean time I'm on some pretty heavy hitting antibiotics, one of which basically forbids me from drinking alcohol! Mind you, with all I have going on with my belly the last thing I really want is to have a beer or any else containing alcohol. Hopefully this will all pass quickly and I can get back to a more normal diet and such.

I think the big take away here is to take care of your health and don't ignore signs that are telling you something might be wrong. Some how I think a lot of what I'm going through right now could have been avoided if I had listen to my body!

Cheers and thanks in advance for all your thoughts and well wishes!

Hope all goes well with the tests. Diverticulitis can be very manageable, both my brother and mom have it. You'll just have to stay away from things that have seeds and/or nuts. Even a caraway seed can cause some real pain.

Good luck and get well soon my friend.

That is bad news louie but it is good that you are doing something about it and listening to your body is important. Good luck will keep you in my prayers.

Diverticulitis, this is common in male adults 40 - mid fifty's, Have quite a few guys I work with that have had this and it will pass with proper medication and diet. Then you will be back to your old self (still have to be careful though) before you know it.

I hope you get the info you need to take care of yourself soon. My mother in law has it and has no problems so hopefully, if that's what they tell you, it can be managed well.
In the meantime, keep us informed and TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!

WOW!!! That really stinks!! I've had it several times, no fun. Follow what the docs tell ya and hang in there. I haven't any problems with it or UC for several years now.
