Big Bend Brew Off Results

Post by Funky Skunk Brewing »

Received my result sheets back the Big Bend Brew Off here in Florida this afternoon. I did not medal with my American Amber Ale (10B) by it received an average overall score of 37.3 out of 50. Here is how the scoring went for each category.

Aroma - 9/12
Appearance - 3/3
Flavor - 15/20
Mouthfeel - 3/5
Overall - 7/10
Total - 38/50

Not upset at all with the results as two of the top three best in show beers came from my category so there was some good competition again this year as always. I received some very good insight towards the beer which is the main reason for these is to make your beer better. As in the mouthfeel category where are three judges scored it 3/5 stating medium body only. So now it's back to tweaking the recipe to get more body into the beer. One thing I did notice of the three judges is I did receive the highest marks from the professional brewer judging at the competition.

Thanks guys. Like I said, it's all about improving the beer overall and the comments the judges left were very good and thought out. Ready to give this brew another go with some tweaks I have been working on and now with their feedback, it gives me something to shoot for even better.

Good job. I would be thrilled with a 37! And now you know what areas could stand improvement, so it's a win-win, as I see it.

Congratulations!

Thank you, Dave.

Yup, that's what competitions (to me) are actually for, improving your beers where you may not know they are lacking.
