First Stone, now Anchor

..is releasing a new IPA this month. Granted, it's not being touted as a session IPA like Stone is but they do go down that road.......
Right now a lot of IPAs are so hop forward that your palate can only enjoy one because of the high bitterness. Our IPA will have a strong hop flavor so you know you’re drinking an IPA. But, the combination of malts we’re using are strong enough to hold up to the bitterness, allowing you to enjoy more than one.
It's still a 6.5% ABV, but it sounds yummy:
2-row, caramel and munich malts
Apollo, Bravo and Cascade hops for bittering and flavor
Dry hopped with Apollo, Cascade, Citra, Nelson Sauvin, Haas, Experimental 431
To kick-off San Francisco Beer Week (February 7-16), Anchor IPA™ will initially be released in California throughout the month of February followed by select US market releases from March thru May. Anchor IPA will be available year-round in 6-packs, 12-packs, 22-ounce bottles, and on draught in select restaurants and bars as well as the Anchor Brewing Taproom in San Francisco.

Agreed. I also think it's funny that they talk about "hop-forward" IPAs in the PR and then go ahead and use 6 different hops in the dry hop.

I also think it's funny that a lot of us use a good amount of Munich in our IPA's (and other brews for that matter...) reguarly...

They must be reading the :borg: !

I thought IPA's were on a slight decline. I don't drink much Anchor beers but I think they do things right and I'm looking forward to it.
Man, if these companies keep making all these good IPA's, I may have to stop brewing them and stick to stouts, porters and pale ales.

I like how they say "your palate can only enjoy one because of the high bitterness." Well, they can speak for themselves, because I (and I know a few others around here), can drink a lot more than just one. What a bunch of pansies :lol:

But I can't wait to try one to see if it's any good.

I don't think they are using the term in the way I do, or you either. I consider hop forward to be massive hop flavor/aroma from late hops, not the bitterness/IBUs of a lot of early hops. So yeah, I would call their beer very much "hop forward" it that regards.

It would appear that Samuel Adams has a new IPA out, too; Rebel IPA. Just saw it a day or so ago on Fazebook.

I picked up a sixer of that last week. I'm not a huge IPA guy, but I really liked Rebel IPA. Don't have a clue how it compares to Stone or Anchor. Might be geared more toward the "just a bit more hoppy than APA" crowd. Will definitely get it again.

The tap handle they went to market with is pretty cool as well. It's a shaker spray paint can.

I might be tempted to try that Rebel IPA... provided I can still use the bottles....

Sam Adams uses pry-offs. About half my bottles are old Sammy bottles.

I just got back from lunch with a co-worker at we stopped at our local Bev-Mo to check in on the latest stock.
They had this we we split a 6-pack.

I'll report back in the REVIEW thread in a few days once they've gotten home, chilled and been tasted.
