Site Access

Post by myhorselikesbeer »

This goes out to Leigh and the other moderators. Is there any setting here that would block me from accessing the site from work. I was able to get here until this week and now I get an IE can not display page. Troubleshooting says the DSN, domain server name, is not available/defined. I can log on from home, but i have dial=up and it is painful. I want to be able to communicate for the RCE. I am not getting the usual site/page block error from work for sites that their software restricts, so I was wondering if it was something else. Thanks. My work address uses geisinger.edu if that helps.

IDK. At my work, the public WiFi blocks MrBeer, Homebrew, and most other alcohol-related sites. It does NOT block beerborg.

It depends totally on what software/service they are using to filter. OpenDNS does not block this as an alcohol related site for example.

I don't have anything from my end that has changed that would prevent you from accessing this site from work. if you can PM me your IP address for your work I can see if I can white list it from my end. I sounds like your work may be preventing access from your end. I had this happen with a site that I help my brother run. I was able to access it from work for the first 6 months then I would get an error when I would try to access it. Then I started getting the company branded "site blocked" notification. If you can or want to, you might want to try using an anonymous DNS to get you through your works security. If you can get your work computer off the network you can check out http://getfoxyproxy.org/

fwiw I got win 7 and I cannot let IE upgrade beyond IE 10. if I do, (and I did, had to reformat and reinstall to get it out) it won't do anything on line, just says unable to connect.

I will try to find the IP for the work server....not sure how. The IP is diff for whatever terminal I am using at the time...none of them will display the page. I can view all other homebrew sites...BYO, Zymurgy, Hbt etc.. Thanks for checking.

It's likely your IT department blocking access. Some companies don't want employees accessing non-work-related sites while on the job.
I have over 9,000 posts on "another forum", which means absolutely nothing. Mr. Beer January 2014 Brewer of the Month with all the pomp and circumstance that comes with it...

Thanks..Usually when they block something it says ...blockpage and the address or access denied and the catagory it falls under...social networking, file sharing. It could still be them though.

Leigh,
I just sent you a pm with server details, but then the borg asked me to log in again so I'm not sure if you got it.

Here is the troublshooting response when I try to use the computers that are for public use in the hospital:

Remote device or resource won't accept connection. The device or resource {www.beerborg.com} is not setup to accept connections on port "the world wide web service HTTP.

Hope this is helpful and let me know if you did not get the server info from the employee side.
Thanks, Ed

BB,
Tryng to keep ahead of the blowing and drifting snow and keep our loooooong lane open. 3-5 more expected tonight. Already dealing with 3-4 ft drifts from thurs and sat. Had to have someone with heavy equip come open it up on fri. the old international 340 just wouldn't do it...only 2 wheel drive.

Also I have been talking to Paul (Beer Lord) to begin planning RCE brews. Thanks for asking.
