First brew
Finally finished my first brew.
Five weeks ago this past Sat. put a Brewers Best Weizenbeir kitin the fermenter. I believe I followed the instructions almost perfectly, although I did get it a little too cold the first night and pitched the yeast slightly too hot.
Two weeks ago bottled it up into 50 12oz. bottles.
Today me, my dad and uncle cracked open three good cold ones.
Success, they thought it was great. It seemed to me a little twangy but after work it was just what I wanted.
Now to start my next brew this weekend, an American Cream Ale kit. If that works my next will be a mild ale extract recipe from scratch.
Good brewing everyone.

Re: First brew
Congratulations on your first brew.
I think you'll find it will taste better after it's been in the bottle for about 4 weeks at fermentation temps.
That "twangy" may be from the bottles not conditioning enough.
Again, congratulations on your first brew.

Re: First brew
good job! now you're officially hooked.
"Filled with mingled cream and amber
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chambers of my brain
-- Quaintest thoughts -- Queerest fancies
Come to life and fade away;
Who cares how time advances?
I am drinking ale today."

Re: First brew
Congratulations!
I agree with Yankeedag that it may need a bit more warm conditioning to help that "twang" go away. And you'll be amazed at the difference it makes.
But for now, savor the fact that you made beer!!
I always say your first taste of your first homebrew may not be the best beer you've ever tasted, but it'll definitely be the most satisfying.
Now go forth and brew some more.

Things men have made with wakened hands, and put soft life into
Are awake through years with transferred touch and go on glowing
For long years.
And for this reason some old things are lovely
Warm still with the life of forgotten men who made them.

And so the obsession begins.

Sweet! Couple more weeks and the twang should go away.
