Question For All You Summit "Saga" Drinkers

Post by Chuck N »

Apparently Summit "Saga" is bottle conditioned just like our home brew (no wonder it tastes so good). So do you pour the trub into your glass with the beer or dump it?

I myself dump mine just like I do with my home brews.
Things men have made with wakened hands, and put soft life into
Are awake through years with transferred touch and go on glowing
For long years.
And for this reason some old things are lovely
Warm still with the life of forgotten men who made them.

I've had quite a few craft, bottle conditioned beers and saw very little sediment. I pour it all into the glass and drink all the goodness.

if it's for me it all goes in. if i'm pouring one for someone else, I dump it unless they say want it.

I will drain that glass again.

Who cares how time advances?
I am drinking ale today."

If the beer has been refrigerated for a couple of the days I find the trub is pretty compact even with my homebrew bottles. But as to wether or not I intentionally stir up the trub it depends on the style. For things like an IPA or Pilsen I would leave it in the bottle. With something like a hefeweizen I would stir and pour out the yeast. I have also found that mixing the yeast into something like a strong ale can add some extra complexity to the flavor that doesn't usually have a negative impact.

Duff, "mix it in to a strong ale" at what point are you doing this?

There is a local micro here that uses a not so well flocculating yeast and bottle conditions. There is literally 1/4+ inch of slightly suspended bottle trub in every bottle, even if it's been in the fridge for weeks. As soon as you tilt them it's already mixing back in. You don't have much of a choice but to drink it, as it won't stay in the bottle. So beer is always a bit cloudy after pouring, but it tastes good. I tell folks to consider it a vitamin B supplement.

I love Saga IPA, it's the only beer I buy since I started home brewing. By coincidence, I drank the last one tonight. I pour it into a glass have never noticed any sediment, so they must bottle condition differently than my home brews.
People don't seem to get my username, which makes sense, since I rarely do. But it is supposed to be: Oh..You-drank-one,too?
