I like almost any movie that Steve Martin is in and have always pictured myself as The Jerk. Nuff said!

Dave, I think if we described more of our brewing needs this way, we could have a lot more stuff. :laugh

As Jeff has mentioned, the glass seems very thin; alarmingly so, I might add.
As the marketing goes, Spiegelau makes a higher-quality glass made of much stronger, blown crystal glass, which allows very thin walls but leaves them very durable... as durable as many glasses that are much thicker. Because of this glass quality and thinness of the wall, when you pour a beer into one of their glasses, very little heat gets transferred. Also, having the super thin rim is supposed to minimize agitation. Of course, the shape is engineered to focus the aromas on the nose and taste, and the ribs aerate the beer, which is more pronounced as the beer gets lower in the glass, which revitalizes the head and releases more aromas. I thought it was all clever marketing, but was very surprised to find when I went to a Spiegelau tasting at Yazoo that the marketing is actually reality.

It would be interesting to try one of these out. One of the IPAs I drank at Lagunitas was served in a mason jar and the aroma was stellar. I can't imagine it being any bigger/better than it was, but I'm not one to dismiss things quickly without giving it some thought or testing it first.

I have a set of the Spiegelau IPA glasses from Dogfish Head. I really think the glass does enhance the flavor and looks cool too. The thin glass concerned me at first, but with normal care they have held up just fine. My usual go to glass is the Sam Adams perfect pint. I picked up 8 of them on the craft beer cruise I went on last spring. I also have some Belgian chalice glasses my wife found at Crate and Barrel. My daughter who bought me the original Mr Beer kit 4 years ago, last year gave me a set of personalized pint glasses "Driscoll Neighborhood Pub- est 2010"

I'm drinking a Raptor APA (original BIAB using Falconer's Flight hops) from one of these as I type this.

The glass really does enhance the aroma of a highly hopped beer, IMO. I've been drinking most of the Raptors from the Sam Adams Perfect Pint, and don't get nearly the blast of citrus, pineapple, and floral as I do from this Spiegelau. Not only that, but I'm currently down to where the level of the beer is at the top of the stem - roughly halfway through, and the aroma is still prominent. Still have 1/4 inch of head, too, but I don't know if that can be attributed to the glass. I think it's more a property of this beer, anyway.

I've always used standard pint glasses until I recieved a set of the SA perfect pint. Pretty much all I use now.

The Sammy Perfect Pint is definitely my go-to beer glass, but I'm very impressed with the way the Dogfish Head glass enhances the aroma, and I may begin to prefer them for highly hopped beers.

I just bought a flight set from Libbey's Craft Brews series. Been wanting a flight set for a while so I'm happy with these. 4 six ounce glasses with a wooden paddle tray. I haven't taken a pic yet so here's the link off the Libbey site:
