First BIAB really active fermentation!

Safale-05 I had 4 in my hand but Doug of Apocalypse Ale Works recommended 5 because of the hops I was using. He owns the local hbs too

Looks pretty cool. That beer should clear up after some time in the bottle, no worries.

you are good on your temp. a little info on Safale-05

I am going to be given that yeast a try soon. since I stopped using MR B I switched to liquid yeast and have never used Safale-05

Thanks, haerbob. That's a really convenient chart. Are there others like it for other strains?
I'll be bottling this thing on Wednesday. Very excited

-05 is my most used yeast, it will ferment nice and clean at the low to mid 60's range. 3 of the 4 batches I have fermenting right now have -05 working on them. It is a good yeast for Pale Ales and IPA's, a clean finish especially when kept on the low side of the range, the hop flavors will really shine though with it, it doesn't accent the malt flavors or bread-like flavors as good as say -04.

Got a new airlock (3 piece) for this new batch, but it's still going crazy! I think these BD cones might not really be big enough for 2.5 gal batches. The 3 piece is way (and I mean way) easier to clean, so I appreciate the advice on that one you guys. Would I get any advantage from a blow off? I've heard that tossed around here, but don't know what it would do for me.

If you're not able to keep a good eye on your fermenter the first few days, a blow off tube is a good idea.
You'd need a tube long enough to go from your fementer into a jar/jug/whatever that has some starsan in it. Any yeast that is pushed out the tube will end up in the jar and the star san will keep things clean. But, there have been times when some people have had their blow off tubes blocked up too though I think it's pretty rare.

Thanks! That sounds like a great idea, and I think that's what I've seen the local brewery do. They had a big tube coming off the top of their conical down into 5 gal buckets filled with water. Might try it next time

No more plastic for me. I bought the Big Mouth Bubbler & it's really the best way to go for 5 gallon batches. I'm going to purchase another 6.5 gallon very soon.
I still use my LBK's as bottling buckets. But all of my other plastic stuff, including my 2 BDK's are going to recycling. I've just outgrown them. :cheers:
