Welcome Old Buzzard, although I'm disappointed you took that name on the forum, as we used it to describe a number of the old timers on here. Now we'll have to use names like "Dirty Old Man", "Wretched Old Man", "JoeChianti" and such.

And Inkleg. Inkleg, Inkleg, Inkleg. What can I say?
I have over 9,000 posts on "another forum", which means absolutely nothing. Mr. Beer January 2014 Brewer of the Month with all the pomp and circumstance that comes with it...

Well I actually win on several fronts with SWMBO. 1 she never really liked beer. 2. She's very supportive since I don't have a lot of free time to golf, fish, hunt anymore. 3. She contracted celiac's and thus unhappily gluten free - thus can't touch the beer. 4. I convinced her that I could make hard cider that would be better than Mike's Hard Lemonade, which she actually likes and can actually drink - so I'll probably be hitting the group up for good recipes.

Thanks for the warm reception. Already enjoying this greatly.

Prost!

I have no experience myself with gluten-free beer, but I believe you can use sorgum to make beer.
Fill with mingled cream and amber,
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chambers of my brain.
Quaintest thoughts — queerest fancies,
Come to life and fade away:
What care I how time advances?
I am drinking ale today.

JP, that's right. I'm pretty sure there are gluten-free mixes available.

JP & John,

Thanks for the info! The other big obstacle is she doesn't like beer. Actually she doesn't drink much of anything except for the occasional Mikes and Piña Colada - while I'm an equal opportunity drinker. More for me.

I'll have to check my notes but should be doing my first tasting very soon after 4 weeks of conditioning of my first two batches of MB.

Love that first batch! (Not mine, it was very mediocre. But it did confirm that I could make beer) Strap yourself in, it's a hell of a ride!
