I got a 6 oz bag of whole beans from my friend Phil. I was labeled: Congo Kivu Bukavu-Beni.
He also sent me a few links about the correct way to brew and measure coffee. I use a French Press and haven't been steeping it for a long enough time. I also have to check the amount of coffee that I have been using. I used 2 scoops but a scoop can mean just about anything so I will weigh it next time and check my water amount. The temperature is important.
Sound familiar? It's a lot like brewing beer. I can see myself getting obsessed with coffee now!
I'm going to give him an Irish Red, Chocolate Coffee Porter, and a Black IPA. Not all of these brews are stellar because I am not really happy about my beer yet but he is still getting the coffee roasting together also so we are evenly matched.
I do want to brew a coffee stout with his coffee sometime soon.

Re: Beer for Coffee update
Nice.
I do like coffee, but I just can't get into the culture of it. I just scoop it out, grind the beans, measure the water, and drink it. As long as it opens my eyes in the morning, that's all I want from it.
Enjoy, Banjo.
