transporting wort
Got my nephew on his way to my house. Got him into homebrewing, so we're going to brew up a blonde ale. My question is: Will transporting the wort impact the fermentation process? Should he wait to get home before pitching the yeast? My concern obviously is the sloshing affecting the fermentation. It's about an hour's drive for him if that matters.

What kind of vessel will he be transporting it in?
I strapped down 2 pails with tie down straps to get the 8 gallons of free wort (from another thread) home so it stayed upright the whole way home.
It didn't slosh around at all and I didn't have a spill but I drove carefully on behalf of my delicate cargo.
If he can pack the fermenter(?) so it won't fall over or slosh enough to actually lose wort via a spill I'd say he's safe to pitch when he gets home and to a proper pitching temp would be best.
I would suggest getting the wort cooled as quickly as possible at your house first or transporting on ice if he plans to leave right after the wort is done but still hot/warm.

I'm not sure how much sloshing around right after pitching yeast will affect it, but it will slosh when driving home. I doubt it will matter though.

BB, the plan was to take it to the fermenter and transport in it. I guess I am wondering if the motion of the car will aerate the wort, and if that would would affect it?

Sloshing will spill some. Pitch when he gets home.

aeration at the start is preferable it's only after fermentation that it's bad

Aerating the wort before pitching the yeast is a good thing. It's after fermentation has started that you no longer want to introduce oxygen to the wort. So I would wait until he gets it home to pitch the yeast.

bottle it, cap it, transport it, and then when it's "home", yeast it.

The consensus seems to be to wait until getting home to pitch the yeast, and I concur. Before pitching the yeast, the wort is kind of inert; nothing is really going to affect it that could change it for the worst, except some micro-organisms getting into it. That can be avoided by sanitizing everything, which you would do anyway, and sealing the vessel, which I would hope you'd also just do automatically.
Upon getting home, more aeration might be a good idea. A temperature check would be vital, too, to make sure it's within the yeast's happy zone.

Well, the wort made it to his house in good shape. We aerated it, then sealed it up, put on the air -lock, and sent him on his way. When he got home, he took another hydrometer reading and checked the temp. Everything was good, so he pitched the yeast. He sent me a text this morning saying the yeasty boys were doing their thing.
