My brother in law lives in Vermont and brought a case of Heady Topper with him for his St. Patrick's Day visit. He went to one store and it was sold out. He then checked on line to see where and on which day it would be delivered in Vermont. He drove about an hour to get to that town and saw a truck with the brewer's name on it just getting ready to makes it's delivery. He scored a case. It sells out in two days time.I don't know if it's worth the hype but I enjoyed it.
Its the first time I have tried this II IPA and really liked it. A year ago I would have hated it.
It tastes like a glass of grape fruit juice to me. ( in a good way ) It is obviously highly hopped but it is not overly bitter. It is very light in the mouth and I think it is highly carbonated. It is a very easy drinking beer.
It comes in a 16 oz can and the text on the can strongly suggests that you drink it from the can to get the full aroma and taste of the hops. I started from the can and then was too curious to see what it looked liked so I threw caution to the wind and poured it into a glass.
It formed a 2 inch head and left a lot of lacing behind.
I wouldn't want to drink this all night but it is a real great experience to drink it. Its an 8 abv beer.
I love my brother in law from Vermont!

Kewl.
It's especially nice that your brother was willing to put himself out like that.

Great newws for you...Heady Topper is really tough to get. Even tougher if you don't live in VT and have to really time your visit. I didn't expect it to be sooo expensive either. It shows $75 a case online... I still want to try it though. I'll get a case to share , just not sure when.
Re: A Heady Topper Weekend
That's interesting that they recommend drinking from the can when there is so much current emphasis on glassware to promote IPA aromas.
