Warning-Warning!

Post by FrozenInTime »

While outside putting my garden tractor's snow blower back on, I received a phone call from a computer voice. It says, sayz it, pleaze hold on for an operator, you mastercard has been shut off. Pleaze hold for the operator to get your card turned back on. I immediately hung up. I went inside and got the number off the back of my card and called the bank. They said it's a phishing scam and they would never call like that. Had I been foolish enough to hold on and give them the *info* to turn my card back on.... it would now be robbed. It is a debit card, has a daily limit on it so they could not have hurt me too bad, but still.......

Watch you cards folks.

I get those and many more similar and I like to tell them what to do with themselves before hanging up. Then I wash my mouth out with beer.

If I got a call like this, I'd probably start some phishing of my own, asking questions and seeing how uncomfortable I could make the other person, before telling them to perform a physically impossible reproductive act on themselves and hanging up.

LOL, I usually have a ton of fun with these idiots, but my hands were dirty, it's chilly outside, was not in the mood to mess with them. I remember loooong time back in the year of land-lines, I would hand these idiots off to my kids. Boy, did they have fun talking to them on the phone. I really like it when the caller is a gal instead of some... india guy. I can explain in detail what she can do with her reproductive ....... organs so to speak.... hehehehe. But today I just did not have the time for that much fun at that moment. Got cleaned up, everything running good, and drank a couple brews to top off the afternoon. Now to fire up the grill and burn some doggies. I love doggies with chilli, onions and cheese for suppa. A good amber ale will wash down this awesome treat served with sweet tater fries..... mmmmmmmm ..... dayum... now I'm really hungry.

My money says they would hang up on you first. They immediately know when they've got a sucker on the line, and when they don't.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.

Ya those credit card/bank scammers hang up fast if they aren't getting any where. The couple I tried it on said they required my SSN to even be able to talk to me and hung up after the second time asking for it. It's the same thing from the you won a cruise people.

The only one that I have been able to keep on the phone is the people that advertise on craiglist that they have rentals or rent to own houses available and then they try to get you to pay $200 for a list of them in your area. I had those people threatening to show up at my house to continue the conversation or threatening to call the police on me.

Just a couple days ago, local PD got a call from County Narcotics that a package was flagged at UPS from a local guy. They did not believe it was drug related but a scam! 81 year old man said an IRS agent in Fla. called and told him he won a substantial amt of money and he needed to send 10% to them so payment could be made to him! Good catch by the County guys, the man got his $5200.00 back! :wow:

I had 'em try it on fb claiming I had won the fb lottery...the real fb lottery has prizes such as an original poem or artwork. all from the person running the lotto. I am registered for it, so I listened politely until they said I won $500k...I kept them talking(pm) while I reported them to fb. then I told "her" that a lot of the information she was asking for fb already knew. so tell me what you know and I'll fill in the blanks. she went away.

Whenever I get a phishing call or e-mail I give them Mr Beer's contact info. Ha Ha just kidding. I give them the White House & tell them to ask for Michelle.

  Too funny. Except that the White House will probably give them the Treasury Debit card number. Ah, what's another trillion or so?

But seriously, some one threatening to come to your house? And call the PD? They better call them first....

Just had to cancel a Debit card and get a new one today
Someone made a $20 purchase at a Shell station with mine about a 4 hour drive from where I had used it 30 minutes earlier
But the bank said it was listed as a "card presented" purchase
Got my $20 back, but Im sure if ?I hadn't caught that one the next one would have been a LOT more

I'd like to hear the reaction of the police officer that takes the "I called this guy and he talked to me for too long with no intention of actually ordering" report. And I'm not too worried about anybody showing up at my house because I'm on the other side of the country.

yeah well laugh now suckers coz in 2 months i'll be a millionaire!!! turns out I had a long lost relative in Nigeria who sadly died in a tragic car accident and guess what!? I'm listed as his sole heir!!!! all I have to do to expedite release of my new-found millions is send a small pittance of $10k and I WILL BE RICH!!!!!!!! (*rubs hands together*)

my fav scam was an email claiming to be from a telecom co in Sweden. it said they are giving away fully loaded and prepaid iphones and all I had to do was complete a simple form and fax or email it to them. the form asked for:
name, mothers maiden name, dob, ss#, drivers lic #, etc etc etc.

I wrote them back:

Dear Sirs:

I have one question for you. Is anyone on the planet so stupid as to actually send you the requested information for what is clearly a scam? I'm just curious.

Best regards....

They never replied.
