How long should it take?
I put the beer on gas at just a bit over 6 psi, at 42 degrees to target around 1.9 vol of co2. I did this 8 days ago, so I am wondering if I can tap this thing already. Would 8 days be long enough for it to be carbonated, or should I try to be more patient and wait a little longer?

I have mine set to 40 degrees and set it on 10-11 for a week and it's usually ready. Sometimes I go to 30 for 24 hours, 20 for 24 hours and then down to 10 for a few more days and get good results.
I'd try it out to see where you are as there's no harm in that.

Mines at 11-12psi at 40*, I'll check it at around 7 days and it's always good to go at 12-14.

It certainly tastes ready! Great roasty and slight chocolate flavor, a good balance between the black malt and the chocolate malt. This was my first robust porter recipe but it really tastes like the best beer I've brewed. Very excited. Only thing is it didn't have head, it looked like it was about to get one but only on the surface was there a slight foam. I am assuming it will come along with time, or that at 6 psi not much head will be formed anyway, either way it tastes great!

Kinda both, it will develop head as the carb level increases and a higher carb level will increase head also. I have the pressure set to carb all my beers between 2.3 and 2.5 volumes.
Some Cara-Pils malt thrown in with the mash will help also.

Ah yes, that is the one malt I forgot to include when designing this recipe. I had pale ale malt, blackprinz, chocolate, crystal 40, and munich 10, but not carapils. Oh well, there is always next time

Since I BIAB, I don't even put it in most recipes unless it's called for. I just add one half to one pound as I'm grinding my grains.

1/2 # carapils is automatic in every beer I make
Unless recipe has 1/2# of carared/foam/munich or cara/something else in it
