Enjoy By 4/20/14

Post by Beer-lord »

Easily the best Enjoy By yet. I've read others saying this and wondered if the recipe hasn't changed, why it's better. I know it's gone to more states than any other shipment and it's ratings continue to grow.
By far, the best aroma of ANY beer out there. I love chocolate but even as good as double dark chocolate smells as its' baking in the oven, it doesn't compare to the aroma that comes off Enjoy By! I try to pick out the aromas and put a flavor to them all and can't. Mostly tropical, but very floral.
This is by far, to my and my palette, one of the best beers of all time.

Ok, it's time for TWIN THINGS....brought to you by STONE BEER! :jumpy:

I opened one of my Enjoy By's tonite as well. Yea, I know, I've got to get a life sometime. This is a VERY VERY good beer. I'll repeat, A VERY VERY GOOD BEER. I don't know enough to say it's their best ever but it's the best beer BY FAR I've had in a while. And I had a Palette Wrecker last night and that's in my top 5 easily.

It smells danker than I remember the last few and as paul says, it's tropical. But I get much more pineapple than I recall from earlier versions. To me, the aroma is 50% of my beer enjoyment so when I smell this, it brings lots of things to the table. But it follows very smooth. For a high abv beer, it's smooth. The last few I had I waited too long to drink and this beer is proof of the fact that hoppy beers don't keep their aroma too long. I won't waste the other one I have. I promise it'll be drunk before 4/20/

What I'd like to do is pair this next to a Parish Brewing Ghost just to see which is better.....I doubt either but I'd bet Stone gets the aroma award.

I agree beer lord. For a great IPA this one is fantastic, but & this is a big but, these IPA's are not the best IPA's of all time in my humble opinion. Maybe in the top 10 but that's a stretch. There are just too many great IPA's from brewpubs to Nano & Micro breweries that most of us have or will never taste. For a massed produced IPA that ships all over the USA this is definitely one of the best. Until you have a fresh Heady Toppper, a Fresh Gandhi Bot, a Double Eastern Standard From Peekskill Brewery, War Elephant From Rushing Duck, Pliney Elder & Younger, Blind Pig, Tustin Brewings IPAs, All of the Pizza Port IPA's, Captain Lawrence Imperial IPA, AleSmith, Dogfish, the more you think about it the more great ones there are. How about Citra Dog? They are all so great it's really getting hard to figure out who's the best. I think my Apocalypto 4 was right there.

I missed out on this edition. But I get exactly what Beerlabelman is saying. I've loved all the Enjoy By's that I've had so far, but there are some really good IPA's out there. Last night I drank the Ghost in the Machine by Parrish Brewing. I'm drinking an Apex Special IPA by Bear Republic right now. I've had a bunch of different IPA's from some small breweries and I would say there are some really GREAT IPA's out there.

But you have to give it Stone for their marketing campaign on the Enjoy By. They really did a great job creating a demand for that beer.

Ink....that's an AWESOME shot you took there. I love the angle (dat's what she said).

Black duck, what did you think about the Ghost? Or did I miss your review?

I loved it, probably the best I've ever had....I did leave some comments on the Ghost thread.

Ghost and Dr. Hoptagon are both on Sunday's list. I need to stay somewhat sober for Game of Thrones tomorrow night.

Beerlabelman, I agree with what you say but while there are many great beers out there (I think IPA's are the best) I just can't get them all so I have to base my personal preferences on what I can get here. Of course, if you can send me some of the ones you mention, I'll try to repay you in any way I can.

Best beer you've ever had? Really?

If so, Awesome. I think I'll be having one tomorrow if I can get the rain to allow me to grill a few things to pair with it.

There are SO many great beers, and so little time to enjoy them that I feel I must do so now.

(and I'm tired of throwing my home brews down the drain)

Make sure to post up your thoughts on this one. I know it's been a couple of weeks since I sent it and I don't know if the bottles will be as good as the fresh tapped keg was but I'd love to know what you thought of it.

On topic:
Yesterday was a coaching day and I spent all day in a gym. I got home at 6:30 after leaving the house a full 12 hours earlier. I promptly poured a bottle of this, jumped in the hot tub and soaked the night away. No pictures, sorry - drinking was a priority not art. Fell asleep and called it a night.

And I'll say it again, too - somehow this is the best batch yet. Yum.

In Florida, many years ago and before the brew bug, it was the hot tub and home made icy cold Sangria. From experience I can say OH Yeah that's better (but pictures should have been provided right Inkleg?)

Oh and you didn't fall asleep IN the hot tub, just in case the safety police are watching right.

Just for comparison, since I commented on Enjoy By yesterday and some mentioned Ghost in this thread as comparison........I opened a Ghost today (still enjoying it as I type). For me, Enjoy By is a slightly better beer. They both are EXCELLENT but Enjoy By is smoother, more aromatic, danker and a tad more citrusy/pinapply.

I'd drink both (and do) but if I had to have one, Id pick Enjoy By by a nose......get it, a nose? I crack myself up

Thanks for caring, nope. My wife and I got out and I poured the last 6 ounces or so (after the initial 16 pour) into my tulip glass and got into bed. I did finish drinking it before I drifted off, though. :D
