Yesterday was my son's 1st birthday party, and I decided to pop open a bottle I've been saving for over a year - a 2012 Dark Lord I got as a Christmas present a while ago. It's probably the most hyped beer in America, being only available once a year (on Dark Lord Day, naturally), and you have to be damn lucky to score tickets.
I have to say, it certainly lives up to the hype. Pours pitch black, with wispy tan head, smelling of burned sugar, chocolate, and booze. First sip coats the mouth with smooth creamy texture. Taste is very sweet and boozy, with a huge dark fruit note, even more prominent than smoky coffee roastiness in the background. My wife said "tastes like smoky boozy prune juice", and it kind of does.
I am glad I had a few fellow beer lovers to share the bottle with - this was a sipping beer, and one snifter was plenty (not to mention it's somewhere around 16%/abv). I doubt I will get to drink it again, but it was an unbelievable beer. Definitely try it if you get a chance.
Cheers!

WOW sounds wonderful. Love your wife's description. Yours wasn't to bad either.
