If anyone needs to download and reinstall Firefox

Post by Tabasco »

You're in for a surprise. It's bastardized ... apparently sold out. All kinds of adds, opening tabs to download this, download that ... posted text highlighted as links to ads all over the place. I ran malware bytes, adaware ... deinstalled firefox and re-downloaded many times ... keeps happening.

Too bad. Using Google Chrome now. Works great.

What version? I'm on Firefox right now v22.0 and no problems. Do you have the Adblock Plus addon? I had to get that thing because some websites really slow down my pc with their Flash banner ads and garbage.

Yes. I downloaded from Mozilla, tried other places too ...

After I de-installed, I ran Malwarebytes in safe mode, then again after booting up.
Then downloaded Firefox from Mozilla site again ... same crap.

Whoa that's not cool....
I use firefox because it has the NoScript addon...google has one too but it's not the same and not as good. Something to do with the way the browsers work...
Bah....
Maybe I'll start using Tor.

Well I downloaded firefox just now and reinstalled, no adware or popups or anything that I can see.
You might have some nasty adware hiding from malwarebytes.
I'd suggest running this tool: http://sourceforge.net/projects/hjt/
It's great for taking out browser oriented malware that is good at hiding, just be careful you don't delete required files. The tool is powerful.

I'm glad firefox didn't sell out, seems like it wouldn't benefit them at all, everyone would abandon ship.

Thanks. Being that I de-installed, ran malwarebytes three times, and re-intstalled twice that it was a problem with Firefox.

*sigh*

If you feel up to trying another tool, I use this http://www.iobit.com/malware-fighter.php and it was suggested to me by a friend who is an IT guy. I also use their Advanced System Care product as well. I run them both about every 1 or 2 weeks and haven't had any problems yet.

I tried all the anti spyware programs .... after deinstalling firefox. Reinstalled it from Mozilla .... same thing ads everywhere, and everytime I clicked on anything, another page, not just tab would open to another and for another download of video players, this that and the other shit .....

Finally, I went into the add-ons and deactivated everything in there. Now, it works fine. I guess somehow there's something on my machine that has these ad-ons and hides them from aniti-spyware. Even Malwarebytes didn't find them. I decativated them, and firefox runs normal now. Crazy.
