Naked Cat Biere De Garde

Post by BigPapaG »

Not too long ago, a Naked Cat appeared at my home...

Being an animal lover, it was warmly welcomed, along with his friends...

One of those friends was this lovely Biere De Garde...

Sweet and Raisony on the nose, well carbonated, medium body, very digestible like a good Belgian should be.

Tasting the complexity of the grist, Special B, D-90, some Munich...

A balanced beer, nice notes from the EKG's and the yeast...

And an enjoyable finish that keeps me wanting another sip! Nice Beer Jeef, thanks!

Yep, I enjoyed mine too, and I agree with your assessment. I have the other bottle and the Ovilla hiding in a dark corner. I will open them... one day.... but for now I just enjoy seeing the naked cat faces stare back at me when I walk over there.

Thanks for the kind words guys, glad you enjoyed them.

Funny thing is I'd never had one prior to buying the yeast. LHBS owner said "hey just got this seasonal yeast in", me "ok I'll try it", and so the research began. I'm still on the fence on how I feel about it.
I don't know if I posted it before, but it scored a 34 at the Suawnee Beer Festival. Both judges put down that it was oxidized.
Thank you both again for the help with this and the Saison. :clink:

That pic sure lit me up, looks like a great brew and the sweet raisony got my interest in your description.

A Biere De Garde has been on BB2's list of want to brew for a while now so this will bump it up a notch.

It seems that our man INKLEG can brew some mighty fine brews.

I wonder if they would all be so good if his cat had hair? :p

Just as a point of interest, and I'm probably not a cardboard supertaster, but I didn't notice an oxidized quality.

I didn't notice any oxidation either. Maybe the beer fest folks abused that beer before it got to the judges, or they were just drunk by then LOL.

@Brewbirds, there are really 3 different styles of Biere De Garde - the blonde, the amber, and the brown. You would get the raisin/dark fruit character more in the amber/brown types. So best way to know what you like is to go out and buy some bottles of each kind. Also some will be fermented with more of a Belgian strain (although often with more restrained/controlled temperature to keep it cleaner) where others with something as clean as a lager yeast. Lager yeast is totally appropriate for a malty Biere de Garde believe it or not.
