Bottling from the keg?
First keg has been on CO2@12 lbs and in the kegerator since Friday. Leaving Thursday morning to see family in Wisconsin and want to take a couple of liter PET bottles to share. My bottling wand fits tightly in the picnic tap (don't have replacement parts for the tower yet). Do I turn the CO2 down to 2-3 lbs to push it slowly to fill the bottles?

This is how I do it. But it helps to be fully carbed. With my system it takes 2-3 weeks to be fully carbed at 12 psi. Just so your aware that yours will be good, but might be slightly under carbed.

Re: Bottling from the keg?
Thanks! Crank the CO2 to 25 lbs to get it carbonated a little more more fully?

Yeah, do that for a day or two and it should help. If it gets to carbed you can release some of the pressure by the purge valve.
Shaking the keg will help put Co2 into the beer, but it will also suspend some trub that may not settle and clear before you need to bottle it.

No problem, it was easier to answer than redirect. Let us know what you did and how it turns out.

FWIW I read somewhere the other day that you can prevent foaming when bottling from a keg by rinsing the bottles first (sterile H2O of course). Dry bottles tend to foam more.

Make sure the bottles are cold. CO2 stays in suspension when cold. Hitting a warmer surface causes some CO2 to come out suspension.

Thanks one and all! Just want to do 1 or 2 one liter bottles to take this weekend, it will only be 4 weeks since it was grain! I know the part of this batch I have bottle conditioning is a ways away. Kegged about 3/4 of the batch and bottled the rest.

Re: Bottling from the keg?
I love kegging. Got a 2.5 & a 3 gallon. Not happy with bottling from the keg though, so I just bring the keg with me.
I have the portable gas cartridge thing & a cooler bag that it fits perfect in. Even brought it to the beach.
I really like kegging 1/2 the batch & bottle conditioning the balance. It's like the best of both worlds. You drink some in 3-4 weeks after brewing - Real fresh. Then, you have your bottles in 4-6 weeks to re-experience the brew & taste the differences.

Know it all too well Gman, we are in the Madison area twice or so every year! We are going to have some time Friday, going to New Glarus brewery. Always try to bring back 12 sampler.

Re: Bottling from the keg?
Turned it up to 25 lbs for 24 hrs, bled off set to 12 lbs and left it alone. Last night I poured a small sample forgot to take a picture, but had a good head that stayed and laced the glass. Bottles filled nice at 5 lbs, too. I impressed myself with this beer, this was my freak out about every little thing, first AG, etc. Simple MO Freedom SMaSH (Maris Otter and Liberty), it went from grain to glass in 3.5 weeks and tastes pretty darn good!
