I never had dead yeast from any producer. I know that a lot of Wyeast's products are slow to swell, especially the lager yeast. On the average their Budvar, Wyeast 2000, takes 3 days to fully swell. Since I do starters, I just pop all of the contents into the flask and let it rip. I get faster results this way
