First if my vet told me that Ralph had a degenerative disease and needed to be put down the FIRST thing I would do is take him to another vet for a second opinion. Because I love Ralph. If the second vet said the same thing I would not have it done until Ralph started showing signs of being in a lot of pain. Obviously that didn't happen with these people's dog as it was healthy 6 months later. IF and when that day came I would stay with him until his last breath so that his last moments on earth would not be in a scary place with strangers. How could they just say OK goodbye Fido, then leave him alone???? Then 6 MONTHS LATER after they get him back take him to another vet? For this reason I don't think the owners should even have a dog.
Second even if the vet was not using the dog as a blood donor, very doubtful, but if he wasn't, the dog obviously did not need to be put down. The vet used his position to swindle these people out of their dog. For that reason he should lose his license at least, but better yet, do jail time.
Sorry but I just found this entire thing very disturbing.

I saw this last night. There's a lot of questions that need to be answered.

It seems that there are a lot details missing, but I agree on a few points. For the unconditional love they give us, we owe the them the comfort of being there when it's time to part. I don't care how hard it is, it's unconscionable to just leave him there and walk away.
Re: I need to vent
I've taken in other peoples dogs who were old and sick when they could not care for them properly in their own home, and then when the time came that they did need to be put down, allowed them to come to my house with a vet and have it done in my back yard out in the sun with their people around...

Yeah I saw that story about the Vet and Mashani, that is beyond kind. Sigh.. We should all try to be worthy of our dogs love and kindness. I have the canine ten commandments at my desk at work. One of them says "Go with me on difficult journeys, everything is easier iof you are there." and "Take care of me when I get old, you too will get old." I don't get it at all, I'm a complete smitten idiot around my dogs, I can't get mad at them, and I would never leave them to be PTS. I will be there until the last spark of life leaves their eye, and then I'll stay and cry a while too.

When we had to put Sunny down due to quality of life issues it was traumatic for all of us. The day or so before were her's. Took he on rides in the convertible, got her ice cream, fed her a pound of bacon, let her have her first taste of chocolate. Kids brought her all sorts of treats that in her 15 years she was never allowed to eat. And stayed with her the entire time at the vet until she took her last breath. Too many people treat pets as objects that when they get bored with them or they become "difficult" and just discard them. No thought is put long term other than "its sooooo cute." People should have to sign up to a commitment when becoming pet parents.

Great Idea. Lily and Lucy are both gonna get a pound of bacon, 1/2 gallon of ice cream, and some chocolate for sure.
