Competition, but not really...but sort of

Post by Kealia »

We have our 5th annual Hops 'n' Barly Fest coming up at the end of June and I've already purchased my ticket.
Some of the breweries there will be:
Lagunitas, Stone, Bear Republic, and many many more......http://www.hopnbarley.org/featured-breweries/

Here is where it gets interesting, I just saw this post on their Facebook this morning:
It is with great pleasure that the Hop N’ Barley Beer Festival brings you The Beer Masters Cup, a home brew competition which is fully opened to the public for tasting, This event will be on June 29th, the day after the Hop N’ Barley Festival. Home Brewers will be able to submit 3 styles beer to be judged and voted on by the open public.
Every Brewer must submit the Beer styles, names, and quantities that they will be pouring by June 10th to have a spot to pour on June 29th. Each beer will be assigned a different entry number and patrons will be able to vote via text or write in. To keep things simple and straightforward at the Inaugural Beer Masters Cup, there will only be one peoples choice award. Also, there will be voting on beer in two general categories. Hop Forward and Malt Forward, Cider can be submitted but will not be voted on. This will simplify voting.
Any entry must be at least 12 bottles or more since it is a tasting open to the public and not just judges. Anyone submitting 5 gallons or more will get a $25 gift certificate to 7 Bridges Cooperative. To enter you simply must do the following…
Purchase a ticket to the Hop N’ Barley Festival on June 28th.
Submit the style, name, and quantities of up to three styles of beer or cider here at www.hopnbarley.org
Label your homebrew kegs and/or boxes as “Homebrew, not for sale/resale, drink at your own risk (new State Law)” along with the estimated alcohol content. We can also provide you with a label. Tell your friends, family, dogs, facebookers, tweeters, and instagramers that you are going to win the First Beer Masters Cup if they come out and vote for your beer.
If you win the Beer Masters Cup people choice, you will be drinking out of the Beer Masters Goblet at this event for years to come. Only two Goblets will be awarded each year. One Goblet will be given to the Peoples Choice Home Brew Champion, and the other for the best score of the Beer Masters Cup Disc Golf Championship. Past winners will be able to drink with this glass at every event in the future. It is like the Green Jacket at the Masters Golf Tournament. There will also be prizes for category winners.
Simply email pjgbirdman@yahoo.com with your beer name, category, and quantity to enter. The brewer/partner will need to pour his/her own beer.
The Gates of the Home Brew Competition will open at 1:00 PM and tasting will start promptly at 1:30. Home Brewers will need to set up there booth or table at 12:00PM. Canopies and tables can be provided. Tasting will end at 5:30 PM and music will continue till 5:30. We can provide a table, canopy and ice.

Now, I've never really had any interest in competitions but this could be really fun to just go and share homebrew. There are no scoresheets, no feedback, just a vote which I could care less about. I don't often do 5G batches but it just so happens that I brewed a fiver of Levitation last weekend.....hmmmmmm

Because this isn't really a hop-forward beer nor a malt-forward beer I wouldn't even have to think about winning but it could be really fun to set up my keg and just pour my beer for a couple hundred people.

I may have to give this some serious thought.

That sounds pretty damn cool Ron. Your Levitation would be a good one to share with folks.
