Keg shopping!

Post by FedoraDave »

I've been buying some of the smaller-ticket items bit by bit when I pick up my supplies at the LHBS. The last two times I was in, I got a regulator (with a discount on my entire purchase due to filling up my Customer Loyalty card), and then I got two gas quick-connects and two 3' gas hoses.

But last night was my bowling league's award banquet. It's a money league, so everyone gets some cash based on how their team finished (and more cash for other achievements, like high series, high game, etc.). I didn't get any individual awards, and my team finished in the cellar, but I still got over $200! I can only imagine what the first-place team got.

But two Cs is two Cs, and I needed to go the LHBS anyway, so along with my supplies for tomorrow's Crown Top Pale Ale and next week's South Ferry Steam Beer, I bought a corny keg and a CO2 tank. As far as the spendy items go, I still need another corny, taps, and, of course, a freezer, but those are for another day. Or another few days. The smaller stuff I can pick up as I go. But having procured a keg and a tank, I'm finally getting the feeling that this venture is really real.

Get a round cooler a d a picnic tap and you can start using that right now. You just put the keg in the cooler and fill with a large bag if ice.

Except for the fact that I don't have the beer lines or connectors. Also, I'm the kind of guy who wants the whole megilla before taking it for a test spin. It may seem I'm prolonging the process, but this is just the way I am. And I can't see spending money on a picnic tap when I'll be making it useless by going with the taps eventually.

They dont ever become useless. They are still handy for having a keg right Out there with you while you are BBQing. Or for taking a keg to a friends house or a number of other things. I sure like my picnic keg dispenser.

this is what I did with my old tower after I upgraded. A person wouldn't need the garbage can with picnic taps. Just a 10 gallon cooler.

I have used mine quite a bit in the summer. And it sounds to me like you have every thing but the taps themselves. I can't think they would be much of an investment. I bought my 10 gallon cooler at home depot for $35.

I like that idea for barbecuing, actually.

Tell ya what - I'll look into it after I get the big rig together.
